WASHINGTON, D.C. — The Federal Aviation Administration says it has brought about 500 safety inspectors back to work and expects more to return next week, potentially easing strains on the aviation system amid a partial federal government shutdown.

Most of the FAA's 3,000 safety inspectors have been sidelined during the 22-day shutdown . But the agency is accelerating efforts to bring them back. Agency spokesman Gregory Martin didn't provide specifics in an email to the Associated Press Saturday.

Inspectors oversee and certify inspections by airline and repair-shop employees. They're not considered essential employees who must work during shutdowns.

The shutdown has hit aviation hard . About 10,000 FAA air traffic controllers are on the job but not getting paid. Some Transportation Security Administration screeners are staying home rather than work without pay.

What idiot decided that aviation safety personnel were not “essential”?

Once again I ask, why did you post a link to Google? Why insist FReepers go through that? Are you receiving compensation by pimping their site? Here’s a direct link created by editing the Google link:

The Federal Anti Aviation Administration has just about killed off private aviation. 80% less at my airport than 10 years ago. Just a bunch of Bureaucrats

That’s a good question, my whole family including hubby and kids are private pilots and we see no killing off...the airports are busy as ever. Maybe even busier since Zero is gone. Maybe he meant when the adsb is being mandatory ? That made some pilots rethink their hobby but I don’t know any that have actually quit flying because of it.

OK, FReepmail me the link with the google crap, I'll FReepmail back to you a link w/out the google stuff. Then post that.

Or maybe you can fix the link yourself? I don't know much about iPhones, abilities, etc.

Here's the original google link:
https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.wral.com/faa-bringing-back-safety-inspectors-sidelined-by-shutdown/18120452/%3fversion=amp

To fix this you strip out all the stuff from //www. through /s/. Then cut off the tail right after 452/. This leaves:

https://www.wral.com/faa-bringing-back-safety-inspectors-sidelined-by-shutdown/18120452/

which is a good link to the story w/out all the google spyware.

1. Issuing useless AD’s
2. Years to get rid of 3rd Class medical which had no impact on safety
3. Drove the price of fuel up by 50% with baseless requirements
4. Killed of aircraft manufactures with useless requirements driving up the cost.
5. Numerous requirements on insurance companies
5. Ridiculous TFRs causing lots of pain and suffering
