Impeachment talk grows louder after report Trump told Cohen to lie to Congress
NBC News ^ | January 18th, 2019 | By Dartunorro Clark

Calls for President Donald Trump's impeachment grew among Democrats on Friday after a report said he had directed Michael Cohen, his personal lawyer and fixer at the time, to lie to Congress about negotiations to build a Trump Tower in Moscow.

BuzzFeed News on Thursday evening reported that Cohen told special counsel Robert Mueller the president personally instructed him to lie to Congressional investigators in order to minimize links between Trump and his Moscow building project, citing two federal law enforcement officials involved in an investigation of the matter. The report also alleged that Cohen was directed to give a false impression that the project had ended before it actually did.

NBC News has not independently confirmed this report.

Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, called the allegation the “most serious to date” Thursday evening and said that his committee would look into the matter.

“The allegation that the President of the United States may have suborned perjury before our committee in an effort to curtail the investigation and cover up his business dealings with Russia is among the most serious to date,” Schiff said in a tweet. “We will do what’s necessary to find out if it’s true.”

This is all about the Notorious RBG and her likely imminent demise. The Rats will screech from the rooftops that a president under impeachment cannot nominate anyone for a seat on SCOTUS.

.... The Left and Never Trumpers have a hard on dreaming of possible Subornation of perjury under 18 U.S. Code § 1622 by the Evil Racist Nazi President .... However .... As with all accusations ... the burden in a court of law always lies upon the Proof of the charges .... Yup .... If ya got no Proof ... Ya got no crime ...

In order to consider the allegation on its merits, we have to consider it, arguendo, to be true.

The allegation is that Donald Trump, while president apparently, suborned perjury by instructing his attorney to lie to Congress concerning the extent of his financial dealings with Moscow.

Bill Clinton was impeached for actually lying to a federal judge the purpose of which was to fix a court case in which Clinton was personally involved and whose purse was at risk of adverse judgment. Not only did Clinton lie, but he attempted to suborn his secretary to commit perjury, and he sought to physically hide evidence from the court. We know the Clinton lied because we have the DNA proving that he lied.

It is clear that Clinton perjured himself even though there was a great effort by Clinton himself and his Democrat supporters to pettifog the meaning of the word "is." It is clear that the acquittal of Bill Clinton in the impeachment trial was rendered on this count not because it was not believed that he lied but because his lies were not regarded to be significant or important enough to qualify as a high crime or misdemeanor.

In the Trump matter we have no DNA, we have only the alleged word of a disgraced attorney who has already been found to have lied under oath and admitted to the same. Unless there is a tape recording of Trump instructing him to lie to Congress, the evidence is highly suspect when it comes uncooberated out of Cohen's mouth. Moreover, this appears to be a process crime in that there is no underlying crime involved. One assumes that doing business in Moscow is not a crime and one further assumes that there is no "collusion" between Trump and Russia to commit crimes related to the 2016 election.

Unlike the direct perjury of Bill Clinton and Bill Clinton's attempts to suborn perjury, Trump's alleged subordination of perjury did not corrupt anything, such as a trial in which his testimony was vital or such as an investigation of a crime concerning collusion with the Russians, because no collusion took place. If the more serious crimes of Bill Clinton were not enough to convict him in impeachment, these process crimes, highly dubious at this point, are certainly not enough to convict Trump.

Mark Twain (my all-time favorite author, BTW) penned numerous essays wherein he skewered the press and said virtually every reporter — including himself — was a notorious liar.

Allegedly. I would need a whole not more than Cohen's word alone to believe that charge.

Impeachment is a trap that he is goading them into. So he can destroy them with combined military/LE cabal. This is like when Patton destroyed Rommel at El Qatar.

“NBC News has not independently confirmed this report.”

This used to be required before publishing a report.

President Trump would be THE power broker in his easily won second term as the people would wipe the House clean of Democrats. Knowing what the puppet-master he is, I wonder if this is manipulated and controlled opposition to get it there.

Just wondering. If a client wants his attorney to do something illegal, and the attorney does it, is the client liable? Shouldn’t it be incumbent on the attorney to advise his client that he will not perform an illegal act?

I dont buy for ONE second this story is true..first of all, if true, Mueller has known this for a long time..why wait another SIX months to issue his report, if its true he would have released this info a year ago..secondly, if Trump were SO scared of being impeached, he would have licked the Dems asses and given them ANYTHING they wanted, he would have funded the Govt with NO border wall, etc he would be terrified of the Dems, he doesn’t seem to me a person who is scared of the Democrats..and thirdly, he appointed William Barr, Mueller’s good buddy to be Attorney General, why do that, they are both good friends, why appoint someone who likes Mueller if he has something to fear
