This is a bullsh*t article, because not only has it been paid in advance, but there is a grace period. If they do nothing they are probably still covered for 3 months

“Why doesn’t Trump open the government and issue an executive order to build the wall as a national security measure in our war on terror?”

I suspect that on the day he was supposed to deliver the SOTU address that Trump will declare a national emergency and direct the military to build the wall and that he will not compromise on the shutdown. If he makes the move on Jan 29th it will puncture the gleeful gloating of the propaganda press that Pelosi showed Trump who is boss.

I find it interesting that the banks that are so closely tied to Congressional coat-tails are completely unwilling to help the furloughed with interest free or barebones loans when they know full well that they will be paid in full when the furlough ends.

How many Congressional leaders are married to bankers whose banks have immensely benefited from their spouses positions?

This is bull. I am a GS-11 and I pay for Health, Dental, and Vision. It is just deducted automatically from my paycheck. The difference is in how you sign-up for it all.

Hey, what’s wrong with that. I’ve had to pay mine working or not!

Where was the crying and sobbing over my bills, joblessness ??

Where has there ever been any sympathy toward any average working American, including RINOs!

I’m sorry but government workers have always had perks & benefits the rest of us serfs - that we get to pay for!!!

Go get a government job you say, I’m the wrong color and political bent to be hired. I found that out when I was 23!

Federal employees usually belong to a credit union. The credit unions are providing short term low/no interest loans, permitting furloughed employees to skip a consumer loan, and other options.

Guess all the FED Workers are those folks who do not have that $400.00 bucks that people like to talk about ?

47% do NOT have 400 bucks for an emergency we are told ! Yes ,there are MILLIONS that can’t afford to miss a paycheck.

Of course these are not the same as the ones I see driving their CADDYS to the grocery store and paying with a GUBMINT credit card,or driving a pickup that many cost more than homes I have owned....

This pertains only to dental and vision and likely comes right out of their paycheck. Which makes this whole thing phony since they will be reimbursed with a FULL paycheck.

Some of us don’t suck off the teat so to speak. I work for the VA as an RN. Thankfully the VA is funded, so I’m getting paid. I have acquaintances (daughter’s friends dads) who work for the BOP and are going without pay.

Lots of us here in the Heartland who are conservative and don’t have the wine and dine lifestyle of living in the Beltway. Lots of us work hard and want to do the right thing.

My company healthcare plans state clearly that we are "on the hook" to pay premiums for the full year regardless of whether we have an active, revenue generating contract. It's a high risk sign-up for me since those premiums total $14,000 annually. It comes out "pre-tax" when I'm earning income. If I'm not earning income, they still expect to be paid and all I have at hand is "after tax" funds. Ouch. Thankfully, I've not be faced with that this year.

I have an old high school friend who is a furloughed federal employee. She estimates about 6 contractors are employed for each furloughed employee. My company has a substantial number of employees who are idled by the furloughed operations. We try to find work for those idled employees so they can continue to earn revenue to cover their paychecks. Many will stay with their alternative assignments leaving the furloughed operations with lots of vacancies. Some will see new employment, thus breaking the connection with the furloughed work permanently.

"Welcome to the real world. Not too many people are going to feel sorry for them."

Their vision and dental care is probably connected to their Union. When I retired from NY State in 2003, I lost both vision and dental care because I was no longer paying Union dues. Since I only go to the dentist every six months for a cleaning, and since my vision hasn't changed significantly in years to have to get new specs, it's cheaper not to have any insurance at all.

Let their Union pick up their vision and dental premiums while the shutdown goes on.

Where was this liberal compassion when Obama put 80,000 coal workers out of work?

People should put money aside for a rainy day, at the very least have credit cards handy. I don't believe all 800,000 workers are that stupid not to prepare for loss of jobs. Anyway, I was doing a thought experiment while showering this morning. (I know, I'm weird.)

800,000 non-essential workers without pay this last month as of tomorrow. Let's imagine that each gets an average of $5000 a month salary ($60G/year). Just a guess, pulled it out of thin air, but lots of them get over $100G/year and few would be in the minimum wage category.

$5000 times 800,000 equals $4 billion dollars a month. Let that sink in; $4 billion dollars a month for non-essential federal employees, every month. Probably a lot more than that. That's almost what President Trump is asking for building the wall at this time. It's chump change for the federal government. Liberal compassion should extend to giving President Trump the $5.7B (once) so they can continue paying out $4B monthly to non-essential workers so they can do their dental care.

More fake news.......Again, coming from my 35 years in the auto industry, Health care is continued under union contract while vision and dental require payment by the temporarily laid off employee........no big deal.

Very few people take advantage of the vision benefits provided which only provide coverage for the eye exam and partial payment for the glasses. Got an appointment scheduled during your temporary layoff, reschedule it.

Dental benefits the same, if you're stupid enough to pay the limited amount for the coverage, maybe around $50 per month, then so be it.

You either reschedule your dental appointment for after you return to work or if it's an emergency, then your dentist is usually willing to work with you and submit a billing date of service after you have returned to work.......

My Dad worked for the NY Central Railroad in Rochester, NY, and they went on strike too. One time when my father was out on strike, I can remember getting mad at my mother because she wouldn’t let me get a new pair of shoes. I didn’t know anything back then, and being a selfish child, I didn’t really care. Then I grew up, and now I’m old.
