Fatal mistake.
So. Kevin. What ELSE did you want to be when you grew up.
Wanna Get Away?
As a term of disparagement for black people, I really doubt any online broadcasters would use the word “coon” in their own conversation . . . or even in the back of their minds. I suspect the only people who heard the supposed slur this way were those who think of nothing else from morn til night.
If that causes pain, I hate to think of the anguish your average rapp record causes. Its amazing how easily the rats get away with pushing fake outrage.
In Washington DC the radio shock jock who took over for Howard Stern when he moved to New York was booted because he said, after MLK day became a holiday, something along the lines of; if four more died we could get the whole week off.
That’s about like when Congressman Dick Armey, referred to his colleague, Barney Frank as Barney Fag! Sometimes our mouths get ahead of our brains and a scintilla of our prejudices come out.
News readers ought to start dropping the “Jr.” part of his name. We don’t call it “MLKJ Day”. That way they’ll be less likely to stumble over it.
The NAACP is niggardly with their forgiveness.
The worst I do is “martin Luther The King” from “Coming to America”.
” I suspect the only people who heard the supposed slur this way were those who think of nothing else from morn til night.”
Yeah, like the two Black female passengers on a Southwest flight who sued the airline because the stewardess said “Eeenie, meenie, minie, moe, take a seat, we gotta go!”
“...Shoot six more of the bastards and take the whole week off.” If I remember correctly. He was gone in 60 seconds....
How is changing “King” to “Coon” a mispronunciation?
The reason on-air personalities don’t cuss on camera is because they don’t cuss in the private lives . . . same with things like this.
He pronounced “King” with a silent “g” (among other things).
He could have admitted that this was niggardly of him.
“The NAACP is niggardly with their forgiveness.”
Be careful where you use THAT n-word: https://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-srv/local/longterm/williams/williams020499.htm?noredirect=on
To some who are poorly educated and poorly read it is almost as bad as the real n-word.
