You know, back in the days of our Founders everyone who owned a farm had slaves. It was the major ingrained institution. When Jefferson was crafting the Declaration he worked with an editorial committee. He wrote his first draft where he went on for something like 2 paragraphs on the evils of slavery. The committee told him, yes we agree with you on this but this has to be directed completely to King George and, essentially, it has to be on one sheet of paper (I am paraphrasing). They knew at that time that some well-chosen words would not destroy slavery. It would be for another generation and it would have to be yanked out of place, painfully.
We are at the very same place regarding abortion.
