In a way, it’s probably better the GOP dodged that bullet. Given that it took a ride on the space shuttle to get him to provide cover for Clinton/Gore on the Chinagate matter, which was treasonous, who knows what kind of damage he’d have inflicted as a Republican (think Juan McQueeg).
As I’ve said on many occasions, I’ll never forget when the media went to Sen. Fred Thompson (who was chairman of the committee investigating Chinagate) for a feel-good soundbyte when Glenn retired in 1998, the normally cordial and gentlemanly Thompson said what he had to say about Glenn and his actions in the cover-up could not be repeated on television.

Like I’ve discussed with some of you offline: Just because someone was in the military doesn’t give someone immunity from being called out when needed. It doesn’t.
I’m wary of the “I won the war all by myself!” types. The combat vets that I know/knew really don’t/didn’t say too much about what they experienced and they disdain/disdained the Audie Murphy wannabes.

“The Right Stuff” was total Hollyweird propaganda for Glenn, deliberately pimping him for President for the 1984 election. Glenn’s problem was that he believed the propaganda, ran that ill-advised campaign that went on for too long, he got massively in debt, and it opened him to being “bought” from then on (the Keating Five business should’ve seen him run out of office on a rail).
