“the prosperity of the 1980s, the tech boom of the 1990s and the ongoing current boom have all bypassed the state.”

Did you leave off the sarcasm tag? Portland and environs have been booming for years. It is the state government that is the problem but not private sector economics.

There are private physician jobs everywhere. Many will leave rather than work for the government.

Good luck with that free health care.

Vermont tried it and it went broke in two years. But hey, go for it! Socialism is never having to say you’re sorry.

The US Constitution guarantees a republican form of government. Somehow, I have a hard time believing that restricting the common law right of contract for trade in lawful services can be repealed.

“Sad that they will lose all of their Doctors. Perhaps they can get some Witch Doctors to come to Oregon.”

There will be a sudden influx from India and China to meet demand.

Open borders don’t you know.......

So Oregon can force medical pros to become govt employees? Shut down private practices? Will they arrest doctors or nurses who decide to leave Oregon?

Another blue state free state healthcare for all legislative pipe dream. Will none of them learn from the People’s Republic of Vermont who actually came up with such a plan and assessed that its cost would exceed all the annual revenues they receive for running the state and that marginal tax rates and payroll taxes would have to more than double to pay for it as there were not enough rich folks in the state to plunder to pay for it and their residents gave them a resounding “NO” when they learned they would have to pay for it.

I took my boys to Portland in 2002 for a summer camp. Two of them either broke or sprained something and I had to take them to the emergency room.

What will it mean for people visiting the state if I am not part of the state system and I have private insurance from another state?

Will I get free care or no care?

Until the 2018 election, Washington state Democrats had tiny, one or two vote majorities in both houses of the legislature.

After the 2018 election, Democrats are now within one or two votes of a 60% majority in both houses.

Overturning a veto requires a two thirds vote in both houses.

However, since all elected state offices are held by Democrats, vetoes are not likely.

Re: Will I get free care or no care?

Just claim to be an illegal immigrant with no I.D.

You will get a free private hospital room and a free emotional comfort dog!

They have no idea how many contingencies they will have to deal with.

But, of course all their "friends" will be exempt from having to sit for hours and hours to see a doctor.

So, I guess ya don't stay long in Oregon and by god ya don't get sick.

Does this mean I, as a Washington resident, am eligible for free health care in Oregon?

Probably not—it will be free if you come from China or Mexico but not if you’re a U.S. Citizen from another state.

Oregon. He says everyone he met was surly and seemed depressed

I suppose it would depend on what part of Oregon that was.

I truly feel sorry for you and your loved ones.

It’s got to feel like being controlled by the demented ones.

This former Oregonian is sadly losing any possible reason to return there some day. I guess I will pray that my family finds a way out, rather than me moving back.

(a) Health care, as a human right, must be accessible to everyone without exception.

All you doctors, nurses and various other medical personnel thought you were free men and women, living in America, when in fact you are just chattel slaves to the Democrat utopia.

“surly, depressed, broke...”

Oregonians are 99% pot addicts. Businesses cannot hire employees because most applicants cannot pass drug test. This pot mentality might correlate with the excessive stupidity here.
