I hear you. The day I can put rounds on target at .932 miles with an AR-15 will be the day pigs (and Hoggs) fly.
Even at a perfect 39deg elevation, a 5.56 through a 14in barrel would be hard pressed to even fly that far.
And if it did it would not do much damage once it got there.
I’m pretty sure the Army lists the M4 carbine with an effective range of 500 meters. And there’s not a single soldier that agrees with that.

I talked to a fellow recently, active duty with the Australian Army, who participated in a marksmanship contest with his Canadian counterparts, using 5.56 at 500 meters. I asked how high you had to hold at 500 meters, and he indicated (with a 100 meter zero) you held about 2 feet above the target’s head to hit him in the chest.
How did he get down range?

The ar-15 started life in the early 50s as a hunting and target rifle. It was around for about 15 years before it was picked up by the DOD.

Come and try to take our AR-15’s, Hogg boy, and you WILL learn what it means to be “hunted”.
He’s deliberately confused effective range with lethal range. Effective range is the range at which a shooter can accurately hit a target. From what I’ve read, the military doesn’t have much confidence in an AR type of cartridge for ranges much beyond 400 meters. However, if I fire an AR at about a 45 degree angle, the round’s likely to go a couple of miles and might retain enough energy to kill or injure a person at that distance; hence, the IMPERATIVE need for a backstop.
This bigoted nitwit doesn’t even know that the vast majority of centerfire rifles have greater effective and lethal ranges than the AR. Thus, by his definition, anybody who owns an old Springfield of any model, an M-1, or any kind of .308 is out to hunt people.
