Nearly 70 percent of black kids are born to unwed mothers - but let's talk about 35-year-old blackface pictures.
The "blackface scandal" proved beneficial for two things. It displaced the frenzy over Democratic Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam's support for a law lifting many restrictions on late-term abortion. It also took away headlines and news print space from the commonwealth's Democratic lieutenant governor, who faces two sexual assault allegations.
But the blackface controversy has legs.
Northam's 1984 medical school yearbook page depicted a photograph of someone in blackface and someone in a KKK outfit, both apparently holding cans of beer. At first, Northam apologized for the pictures, arguing that they do not accurately reflect his character. The next day, he said that, upon review, he is neither the person posing in blackface nor the one in the KKK outfit. Nor did he know how the photos ended up on his yearbook page. He admits that he once learned the moonwalk and applied black shoe polish to his cheeks to appear as Michael Jackson for a dance contest. When a reporter asked Northam if he could still do the moonwalk, Northam's wife stepped in, calling the request "inappropriate." Maybe she had seen him do it and was not impressed.
A page designer of that yearbook explained the process. Each student, he said, submitted the pictures to appear on the student's page. This means, whether or not Northam is the person in blackface or in the KKK outfit, he nevertheless selected the photographs. The page designer doubts the pictures somehow got mixed up. Still, Northam insists he will not resign. "I have thought about resigning," he said, "but I've also thought about what Virginia needs right now. And I really think that I'm in a position where I can take Virginia to the next level, and it will be very positive."
But there's more. Turns out there are two Virginia blackface scandals.
Democratic Virginia Attorney General Matt Herring admits that he, too, wore blackface to a party to imitate "rappers we listened to ... like Kurtis Blow." Herring was 19. In his statement of apology, he said, "the shame of that moment has haunted me for decades." The "shame" of wearing blackface on one occasion to a party to impersonate a rapper Herring listened to "haunted" him "for decades"?
Virginia Democratic lawmakers demand Northam's resignation, as have many Republican members of the Virginia legislature. Hillary Clinton tweeted: "This has gone on too long. There is nothing to debate. He must resign." Presidential candidate Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., tweeted, "The governor of Virginia should step aside so the public can heal and move forward together."
But wait. Blacks, the group presumably the most offended by blackface pictures, want the governor to stay in office. A new Washington Post-Schar School poll asked, "Considering everything, do you think that Northam should step down as a governor of Virginia or not?" While Virginians as a whole are split evenly on whether Northam "should step down," 58 percent of black Virginians want him to stay, with 37 percent disagreeing, a 21-point margin in favor of the governor. Apparently, blacks in Virginia have resisted the call to hop up and salute the flag of victimhood.
Critics of President Donald Trump accuse him of coarsening "race relations," of creating an atmosphere through the use of "racist dog whistles" to "normalize" racism. But according to Gallup polls since 2001, non-Hispanic whites' ratings of "relations between whites and blacks" as "very good" or "somewhat" good peaked at 75 percent in 2007, during the George W. Bush administration. It declined steeply during the presidency of Barack Obama, reaching a low of 45 percent in 2015. For blacks, ratings of "very good" or "somewhat good" race relations also peaked during the Bush administration, at 70 percent in 2001. As recently as 2013, the number for blacks stood strong at 66 percent, but by 2016, it had dropped to 49 percent. The drop in those perceiving "race relations" as "very good" or "somewhat good" occurred well before Trump descended the elevator at Trump Towers to announce his candidacy for president.
Get out the magic wand, wave it over America and remove the racism, along with any blackface makeup.
Nearly 70 percent of black kids are born to unwed mothers. The dropout rate in some urban high schools approaches 50 percent. Of those who do graduate, many cannot read or do math at a 12th-grade level.
The No. 1 cause of preventable death for young white men is accidents, such as car accidents. The No. 1 cause of preventable death for young black men is homicide, almost always committed by other young black men. In Chicago, a city approximately one-third white, one-third black and one-third Hispanic, blacks accounted for nearly 80 percent of homicide victims in 2018, and most of these cases remain unsolved. According to a 2017 report by the Centers for Disease Control, a black child is almost 10 times more likely to be a victim of a gun-related homicide than a white child.
But let's talk about 35-year-old blackface pictures.
Ironically, Northam is credited with winning the Virginia governor's race using deceptive tactics, tarring his opponent,
Gillespie, as a "white nationalist." Northam made effective use of Pelosi's demonization tactic called the wrap-up smear.
CHECK OUT THE PELOSI VIDEO HERE

The video has Pelosi saying: We (Democrats) call it the wrap-up smear. You smear somebody, with falsehoods and all the rest,
and then you merchandise it to the media, Pelosi blithely revealed at a press conference last year.
======================================
Northam also sent out a campaign mailer tying both President Donald Trump and Ed Gillespie to white nationalists, then on-the-prowl in Charlottesville, Va.
Later, a pro-Northam group ran an ad labeling Gillespie as a "genocidal white supremacist." Northam dutifully reported the ad as an "in-kind" donation to his campaign.
Not to be outdone, then-governor, Terry McAuliffe, accused Gillespie of having run the "most racist" campaign in Virginia history.
McAuliffe actually took Democrat slime politics to new depths of depravity; McAuliffe suggested Gillespie's campaign was more racist than the secessionist movement supporting slavery, the segregationists, and the opposition to interracial marriage.
That's how ridiculous it got.

SOUND FAMILIAR This patented Democrat "wrap-up smear" was used against Justice Kavanaugh.
Hillary was very good at the "wrap-up smear"----she'd "leak" what she said was damaging info on Trump to the media. Then when the smear was published---she'd wave around the clipping, "proof-positive" that she was the superior candidate.
Now, on the subject of Greenfield's article, he's spot on. Obama used the Justice Department to prevent local school districts from disciplining black students, asserting that higher rates of disciplinary actions for blacks than whites was prima facie proof of discrimination. This was completely wrong, it was proof of nothing more than bad behavior by black students. There, I said it. And it's a result of the bad results in aggregate of too many single mom households. There, I said it again.
The fact of the matter is young males need a father in the house teaching proper behavior. When that doesn't happen, bad things result in aggregate. I don't care how many anecdotal stories of kids raised by single moms doing well you produce, the numbers in aggregate are what they are, and they show a large increase in all sorts of bad results from single parenting.
Back to this Obama policy on discipline, it hurt no one more than the black community itself. It helped screw up black schools and the education of those trying to educate themselves, and it helped reduce socialization of young black men who weren't being taught proper socialization at home.
Trump's Justice Department has jettisoned this evil policy, but much damage was done.
It's worth noting that this policy of not properly disciplining school kids had its origins in Broward County Florida. Read up on The Broward Promise, a failed policy of the Broward schools and the sheriff's office. It was a root cause of the Parkland shootings. A school with proper disciplinary actions on students would have had the shooter dealt with.
let the dead bury their dead
Larry Elder nails it, as usual.
I heard Thomas Sowell state (The Quest for Cosmic Justice) that a young black man in Chicago is more likely to die of a gunshot than was a US soldier in WWII.
The MSM & Democrats are the groups most demeaning toward black Americans. They continually put forward people like Maxine Waters, Whoopi, Jesse, various rappers, musicians and atheletes as spokesmen for the black community. Never a mention of Thomas Sowell, Larry Elder, Walter Williams, GW Carver, etc.
Mr. Elder is not quite accurate here. The proposed Virginia statute would not have "lifted restrictions." It would have codified at the state level the current nationwide, judge-made, legal regime.
Is Larry on board with the Second Amendment?
Im glad none of them resigned. SHOULD help us in November. If it doesnt, we may be in deep trouble. That would mean the country is going left faster then anticipated.
he [Herring] said, “the shame of that moment has haunted me for decades.”
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
The only thing that has ‘haunted’ him for decades is the fear that someone would find that picture and make it public during an election campaign. Looks like he spent a lot of time being haunted for nothing because exposure of his blackface adventure has not resulted in much negativity for him, other than he had to apologize.
A 40 year old picture should not be held to the same insane standards as apply today.
Virginia is for racists, i mean rapists, i mean....oh, never mind!
Mostly thanks to the GreatSocietygoverment War onPovertysociety programs of LBJ.

Trayvon Martin was a victim of Broward County “discipline” NOT policies. Their policies got him killed.
Good point.
Great point. If hed have been in juvy prison where he belonged, he wouldnt have gotten himself killed.
Public Educations Dirty Secret doesnt mention single moms explicitly, but certainly leaves no doubt that peer pressure against acting white is allowed to overwhelm any hope of actual education occurring in government schools with a critical mass of ghetto types in them.In the 1970s research indicated that blacks did much better in schools with lots of white students. Well, yeah - one or a couple of blacks put in a serious academic environment did a lot better academically than they would have been expected to do in an all-black school. But that was used as a rationale for bussing white and black students all over the place to have a significant number of whites in black schools, and a significant number of blacks in suburban white schools.
The predictable result was no improvement in black education, degradation in white education - and serious hate and discontent all around. Preventing local school districts from disciplining black students the way they would whites simply maximizes that effect.

Hear, hear. And look at the price George Zimmerman paid for it - thanks to Trayvon's notional father. And the MSM.
