I once got to see a section of the wall and no man’s land that divided the two Germanys. What occurred to me as I looked at it, that the wall wasn’t there to keep NATO out. It couldn’t. That wall was there to serve a different purpose: to keep East Germany’s citizens in.

I would pay money to see if she could, without assistance, answer even a handful of questions about WWII or the Berlin Wall.
There is a bit of irony though. The Berlin Wall was built to protect Communist totalitarianism.
Our fancy fence, if ever built, is being built to protect us from becoming a brutal communist totalitarian pawn on the global socialist chess board.
The Berlin Wall was built keep free people and free market from imploding the grip of the communist totalitarians. Our glorified fence would have been constructed to keep the communist totalitarians from being able to take us over!
In our case, the enemy has long been within, but it could not neutralize the voters of America fast enough for the global socialist agenda. So they employed a strategy to weaponize illegal aliens, to neutralize the vote, and at taxpayer expense! A real army, (albeit a mostly unaware pawn army), being paid from the public treasury, by treasonous politicians seeking permanent totalitarian control of a once free society, to destroy the once free host nation.
How is this not fundamentally treason?
It really is all about the purpose of the wall, and representative governance vs. left-wing authoritarian/totalitarian governance.
In this case, it may well be too late. We may well have allowed enough illegals in, to neutralize our votes and bankrupt everything in the near future, which is the death of liberty and America as we know it. Weaponizing illegal immigration, was the real goal of Ted Kennedy and the DNC, all along, even though there were token soundbites and false/failed votes for constituency theater.
As far as the usefulness of walls, if they are always bad and dangerous, we should take down all the walls around every prison around the world. All the fences around daycare centers and schools, and swimming pools that have been mandated as well.

If there is an analogy between erecting a wall along the southern border of the US and the Berlin wall, it is only from the perspective of those who approach it from the south.
The US border wall — to the socialist hellhole countries of Central and South America (economic and political systems that the A.O. Communist fully supports) — keeps the citizens from escaping those socialist hellhole countries...much as the Berlin wall kept people from fleeing the communist countries.
The Berlin wall to those on the ‘other’ side (that would be to the west for A.O. Communist) kept the freer side of Germany safe from the encroachment of the socialist hellhole to its east, much as the wall along the US southern border keeps America safe from the encroachment of the socialist hellhole to our south.
