A Coast Guard lieutenant assigned to the service's headquarters in Washington, D.C., has been arrested on drug and gun possession charges, and is accused of plans to "murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country," according to documents filed in Maryland District Court.
Lt. Christopher Paul Hasson, an acquisitions officer for the National Security Cutter Acquisition Program, was arrested Feb. 15 and charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by an unlawful user or addict of controlled substances, and possession of Tramadol, a Schedule IV pain medication.
A motion for detention pending trial, filed by U.S. Attorney Robert K. Hur, paints a much more menacing portrait of Hasson's crimes and planned crimes.
"The current charges, however, are the proverbial tip of the iceberg," Hur wrote. "The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect government conduct."
Hur cited a draft email written by Hasson in June 2017 in which he said he was "dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth" using a "Spanish flu, botulism, anthrax" or some other mass toxin.
Another draft letter to a "known American neo-Nazi leader" identified Hasson as a white nationalist looking for an opportunity for "a little focused violence" to establish racial supremacy.
When Hasson was arrested in Silver Spring, Maryland, earlier this month, the document states, law enforcement agents found 15 firearms, including shotguns, rifles and handguns, and "conservatively, over 1,000 rounds of mixed ammunition."
A list of potential targets allegedly compiled by Hasson in January included "prominent Democratic congressional leaders, activists, political organizations, and MSNBC and CNN media personalities" including TV host Chris Hayes; House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-California; Sen. Tim Kaine, D-Virginia; Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand, D-New York; and many others.

So what crime did he do? Sounds like he has been contemplating, buying guns, and researching online.
What was the specific act he did?
By this standard, a prepper who reads about rebellion, stockpiles likely supplies, and thinks about how a civil war could unfold could be arrested?
Is there some overt act that indicated he was “in motion”?

Its already happening.
My opinion based on observation and apparent patterns of sociopathic behavior.
Some write their plans out because they are obsessively organized and want records kept of everything.
Some write their plans out because, sadly, they are proud of whatever diabolic plans they have made.
Some expect these plans to be discovered and read to the public, long after they themselves have died in pursuit of their goals. They expect to live on in infamy, or become the latest Celebrity Madman.
Yeah, true. This just has an odd feel to it. I mean lets not mince words. There are probably hundreds of thousands, if not millions of Americans who have more and better guns, way more ammo, remote mountain cabins, blogs about bugging out, civil war, resisting, interest in wars, rebellions and insurrections, books with dark themes, etc.
Maybe it’ll come out. But I wasn’t seeing descriptions of his plan “beginning”, something like stalking congressmen, writing threatening letters, deeding over his house to a friend or relative, telling someone the date he was going to start...etc.
Something just doesn’t sound right.

When Democrats are the targets, you get all the information, motives and connections upfront and in a timely manner. When a terrorist is a Leftist, you may never get the information. But I’m glad this guy got caught, even in the face of how dirty, hypocritical and malevolent the Democrats are.

The “Neo-Nazi leader” assumed he was being set up, so he sent the “Murder” letter to the FBI.

Both letters are described as drafts, so if his email is like any email with which I’m familiar, they were never completed let alone sent.
So, this is the result of finding them on his PC. They were never sent.
They were also from nearly two years ago. Why did they wait so long to arrest him, why now?
