The St. Petersburg Concert Choir sang the song in St. Isaacs Cathedral during a concert celebrating Defender of the Fatherland Day, a holiday that honors Russias armed services every Feb. 23.
The lyrics translate in part: On a nuclear-powered submarine, with a dozen bombs just under 100 megatons, I crossed the Atlantic and called up the gunner: Point, Petrov, toward Washington, D.C., I say.
"Forgive us, America, good old America, but it was a shame you were discovered 500 years ago," the choir continued.
The St. Petersburg Concert Choir disabled the comment option on its social media page after being flooded with indignation, The Associated Press reported.
On Tuesday, the choir dismissed the criticism as repulsive and defended its performance as true to the original.
We dont rewrite the lyrics for the sake of political correctness or other state of affairs, it said in a statement.
The video appeared around the same time that Russian state television identified several U.S. military facilities that Russia could target in the event of a nuclear war.
To be honest, they shouldnt have sung it in St. Isaacs Cathedral, Andrei Kozlovsky, the author of the song, was cited as saying by the Fontanka news website.
Nothing good will come of it, he added.

So-called “Navy Patriot”. In reality, a diehard Putinista.
Obama is gone guys
Funny that these days Russia is the least of our worries. I worry more about RINOs kyboshing Trump’s wall agenda, and Mueller using Cohen as one last stab at the POTUS. If we can get past those 2 crisis’ THEN we can worry (a little) about the blabbering from one of the smallest economies on earth.
Well yes, Russia is a big frustration, and pisses me off a little for how much they have ripped off foreign investors over the decades. As for the Russian people, they love this guy Putin, so to hell with them.
Seller’s remorse? They sold Alaska to us for $7 million.
That’s one of my favorite hymns
“” “” I dont think its possible to be friends with Russians, not anymore. Thought 1991 was a sea change. Putin has proven otherwise; Russians prefer a strongman to democracy.”” “”
That is only true in case you share Bush II vision of democracy: ‘An Iraqi style’. The so called ‘Imrerialistic ambitions’ are nothing but a wish to live normal lives like people in any other nation without limits imposed by foreign powers.
The Iraqi style democracy failed them in it.
"You will see the lightning flashing, hear atomic thunders roll
When Moscow lies in ashes, God have mercy on your soul..."

Our friends....lol
Lot of Putin puffers here. Have no idea why.
You haven’t addressed Russians’ preference for centralized rule, going back to the Tsars.
“If only we could tell our problems to the Tsar, then everything would be all right!”
Putin closed that door. In my area I know several Russians...now Americans...and they either hate Putin or strongly dislike.
There is a theory and I find it legit that the form of government is in large a reaction to economic conditions. When people have opportunities to live better lives based on their hard work and enterprise they don’t need strongmen to ‘help them out’ and they don’t tolerate government corruption. And it is just opposite in the opposite situation. It is not unique to Russia and the Russians aren’t particularly challenged in that department. The US are probably only a couple recessions away from Tsars and comissars. Europe is almost there by now.
Most of renowned anti-big government anti-left thinkers were actually Russian.
And after the fall of the S.V. the US government thought merely democracy was the answers, when they will not work when the Mafia and former KGB remains in power, and without a strong evangelical Christianity.
Russia is not now, and never has been, a European nation. It is now, and always has been, an oriental despotism.

Russia is a European nation-but a Byzantine one, not a Germanic or Latin Protestant/Catholic one, which is what most other Euro countries are. Also, Russia missed out on so much that affected the rest of Europe. It never had a Renaissance, or a Reformation, for example.

Amen:) You can even hate worse things into existence.
I have toured Europe twice in a choral ensemble. We were never allowed to sing anything in a cathedral that was not sacred.
The first choir had toured Russia in prior years. I was told they were only permitted to sing sacred music in a cathedral there as well.
When I say sacred, I mean the lyrics - the worded content -not the music. Some music that sounds sacred is actually secular lyrically.
