Kim — Not Trump — Was Right About Summit Snag, Says State Department
Huffpost ^ | 3/2/19 | Mary Papenfuss

orth Korea had the more accurate take on what happened at the summit with President Donald Trump before talks failed, according to an official with the U.S. State Department.

The president claimed Thursday that he had walked away from negotiations in Hanoi after Kim Jong Un demanded that all sanctions against the nation be lifted.

“Basically, they wanted the sanctions lifted in their entirety, and we couldn’t do that,” Trump said. “We had to walk away from that.”

But Pyongyang representatives called a late night news conference later that day to correct Trump’s statements, saying that Kim wanted only economic sanctions imposed since 2016 lifted — and not any concerning weapons. In exchange, Kim offered to shut down the nation’s main nuclear complex — and was prepared to offer in writing a permanent halt to the nation’s nuclear and intercontinental ballistic missile tests, according to his officials.

North Korea’s account of the sanction issue was accurate, a State Department official said Friday in a briefing to the media, The Associated Press reported that Kim had sought the lifting only of United Nations Security Council sanctions imposed since March 2016 — not sanctions going back decades. The concession would have removed sanctions on a range of goods, but not weapons.

It’s a meaningless distinction, bottom line is Trump and Pompeo both decided to take take a tough stand. Very few people we6l disagree with that. Regardless of whether “all” includes sanctions put on by other presidents, NK was hiding number sites and only offering to dismantle one facility.

Bottom line, Trump wanted more weapons concessions before removing any sanctions, they wouldn’t, so he walked.

I don’t see why the State Dept. “spokesperson” couldn’t be named. It was a press briefing, right? I assume Pompeo knows who it was. Could it have been Pompeo?

State department undermined the military even back when the Navy had to deal with the Tripolitanian pirates. The history of State department duplicity goes back a long way.

This NEVER happened when King Barack I ordered pallets of cash totaling $150B under cover of darkness to be flown to Iran’s murderous mullahs, bribing them to sign his treasonous “Iran Nuclear Deal.” (Because “treaties” have to be approved by the Senate, and he didn’t have the votes.) Not a peep from the State Dept. about that flagrant abuse of power.

Pompeo should be sacking the holdovers from the Obama cabal in the State Dept.

I can assure you that, while Sec Pompeo ‘might’ be on the President’s side and America’s side, 99% of the US Dept of State is not. Pretty much, damn near all of them hate the United States and love Socialism/Communism/Fascism, with all their heart. However, they do so because no matter where they live, no matter how desperate the situations are, in whatever country they serve in, they are protected by the US and they’re life is paid for, by the US. They don’t want for anything. Their kids, if it’s a post where the family can accompany them, go to the finest schools, costing the US taxpayer $20-30k a year, per kid. They stay in the nicest parts of town, if they’re allowed to live on the local economy. If something happens to them, they get treated in the best hospitals. All the while they hate the very country that supports them.

Trump did the right thing. The trouble with the State Department is that they are overloaded with Obama-Clintonites.

It is the sanctions since 2016 that brought them to the table.

It is a certainty that Trump understood and in making his statement did not distinguish between sanctions.

Splitting hairs did not matter. Kim did not offer what was required

I smell fake news from the drive-bys, as well as NK lies. C’m on! These are heathen infidels! All they KNOW is lying and CYA! They must be thoroughly retrained. But Trump WILL win.
