An American journalist and his assistant have been detained and taken into custody by Venezuelan military counterintelligence forces on Wednesday morning, making him the latest reporter allegedly targeted by President Nicolás Maduro's administration.

Cody Weddle, a Caracas-based reporter who has been covering the political uncertainty in Venezuela for WPLG Local 10 News in Miami, and his assistant, Carlos Camacho, a Venezuelan citizen, were detained after their respective residences were raided by officials.

"The [State Department] is aware of and deeply concerned with reports that another U.S. journalist has been detained in Venezuela by Maduro, who prefers to stifle the truth rather than face it," Assistant Secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier said in a tweet.

Hemisphere Affairs Kimberly Breier said in a tweet.

Did you ever think how few press conferences are needed in the Age of the Tweet? PR agents must hate the rise of commentary going straight from the originator to the recipient in minutes rather than days with the concomitant loss of ability to massage and sanitize the stuff.

Trump’s legacy should include the emergence of official tweeterdom.

I almost get the feeling that this thug Maduro and his Cuban enablers (or is that the other way around?) are trying to feel around to figure out which reporter they can make an example of in order to shut the rest of them up. If they get away with this the truth about Venezuela goes away and Maduro and the Cubans get away with this.

So, the journalist has been arrested and the state department is “concerned.” Well, hell that ought to scare the sh*t out of the commie pig Madero.

Our US State Department is composed of weenies and cowards. Madero understands violence - apply it.

Good news. Leftist Americans like this person need to get a taste of a true leftist state like Venezuela. Of course all leftists are too dumb to learn anything from the experience so I am sure she will still support leftist policies even if she is roughed up.
