George Conway, husband of White House counselor Kellyanne Conway, warned Friday that the U.S. would be a "banana republic" if President Trump's threats against members of the Justice Department went fulfilled.
In an address at Georgetown Law School, Conway, who is an attorney, warned that Trump's statements suggesting that top current and former Justice Department officials should be jailed for their role in the special counsel investigation were anti-democratic.
"The president has suggested that members of his own Justice Department should be locked up for investigating the president," Conway told an audience Friday.
"Now, if people were to get indicted or not indicted on the basis of whether or not the president likes them, we wouldn't have a republic," he added. "We'd have a banana republic."
The New York Times reported in November that Trump wanted to order the DOJ to prosecute former FBI Director James Comey as well as his 2016 rival Hillary Clinton. It was unclear what charges Trump reportedly wanted to pursue at the time.
The president has frequently attacked Comey, who he accused of leaking memos detailing their conversations to the press.
Trump also shared an image on social media last year of Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein and other law enforcement officials and Democratic figures behind bars. The president told The New York Post at the time that Rosenstein "never should have" authorized the appointment of a special counsel to investigate his campaign.
Conway emerged as a vocal critic of the president last year despite his wife's position at the White House, and has frequently battled Trump on Twitter and in op-eds.
Earlier this year, Conway suggested that reporters should assume the president to be speaking falsely under most circumstances, stating that nothing Trump said could be taken at "face value."
The attorney also warned earlier in the week that Trump could face impeachment if reports of his involvement in pressuring the Justice Department to block a merger of Time Warner and AT&T proved to be true.
Dems beat him to it.

Because no balding, semi-obese man is going to criticize his wife, who happens to be a relative good-looking 52 year old woman employed by the Trump administration. This guy said or tweeted something derogatory about Trump just the other day too.

It's not for investigating the president, but for lying to the FISA court that he suggested they should be locked up. Conway's a jackass.
There's a growing belief that George Conway is a fake #NeverTrumper, that it's all an act, and this is why you never hear the President mention his name. Conway plays a significant role in vetting the federal judges that Trump is placing on benches across the country.
He is a fool.
First, the FBI and DOJ persons who are certain to be indicted will not be indicted because the president does not like them.
They will be indicted because they committed crimes.
Conway has a warped mind.

Someone said recently that Kelly was a leaker - he saw her screen and saw her doing it even though she’s denied it.
My suspicion is she’s the same anti-Trump person she was before DJT hired her and she does’t disagree with her husband. After all - how could they live under the same roof if they truly disagreed? Why would she put up with this if she didn’t agree?
And of course the big question - why doesn’t Trump let her go? Does he not want another Omarosa x 2 out there spewing ugly stuff?

These swamp creatures like to hide behind an “independent” DOJ. That is nothing less than a rogue, unaccountable DOJ. That’s the means for a fascist government controlled by the globalists.
Time for these “investigators” to face military tribunals for sedition. Time for prosecutors and investgators to get their due and no more immunity. Then fat slobs like Conway can plead their defense in court. I’d say turnabout is fair play.
