Holy Floating RJ’s
Keep your wits and stay safe. Don’t worry about the beef, Alberta has more than enough, I’m sure we can work something to help out.
Wheat? Thatd be Kansas.
Exactly
We live in hilly country and the water disperses QUICK !
Saw part of the south end of the flooding when I was on base the other day. Lived here for 29 years this time and stationed five years here in the 80s. This is the worst I’ve seen. The heavy snow accumulation combined with a quick rise in temps and heavy rain made for a fast surface melt that the frozen ground couldn’t handle. A real mess all around the area.
I’m fortunate in that I live at the top of a hill that is two blocks from the Missouri river but 500 ft above it. This one beats even 2011 which had a huge impact.
I think I’ll invest in seaplanes.
Camp Ashland
Not planted yet. The winter wheat is done, but that happens often.
Many fields are now sand pits. That complicates things. My cousins land has about three feet of sand in places, so the dirt moving equipment is out.
Buddy started driving all over to find back roads to places. Was able to get to Fremont, but the road will not support heavy traffic. Many employers are paying regular wages till they get dried out.
Major mess.
Funny thing is the Cajun Navy is showing up. Two years ago during the Houston flooding, a bunch of Nebraskans went down. Now a bunch of Texans are showing up. One guy joked “I had no idea of where Nebraska was, but I figured if I headed north someone will tell me!”
Then we have the swampers showing up with all sorts of vehicles. A few have been helping out with rescue efforts, most just running supplies to cut off towns.
Nebraska will survive. Heck, we will get our stuff together before FEMA gets there, but it will suck for a long time.
Best friend lives there. There were cut off for three days. Now they can go north, but the big town (Fremont, 27,000 people) to the west only has two routes in and out.
Local pilots were running supplies into the airport till a military and HyVee convoy found a way in.
It sucks. My friend in both towns were out of TP, but had freezers full of beef and pork. So food wasn’t an issue, but the results were!
Bigger hit is all the livestock. Between the floods and blizzards, they got hit pretty bad.
Millington, TN NAVAL BASE 2010 Flood.
the fools didn’t fly the aircraft out of there????
tell me you’re joking...
The planes were incapable of flight because they had major problems or were down for hard maintenance or were parts only. Those that could be towed away before the water rose too high probably were - the remainder were left.
