Roger Stone explains why he’ll be pleading the Fifth before Congress
NY Post ^ | March 22, 2019 | 12:18pm | By Yaron Steinbuch

Stone discussed his decision to invoke the Fifth Amendment and refusal to submit documents requested by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler.

“Trump is guilty, he says, and now we just need to find the evidence. I call this a fishing expedition,” he said. “I don’t think Nadler has any evidence of Russian collusion or conspiracy or treason.”

He said he believes Nadler is trying to lay the groundwork for introducing articles of impeachment against Trump “in a rapidly left-wing Democratic House.”

“I have elected not to participate. I’m executing my Fifth Amendment right given the fact that I’m facing this legal proceeding in Washington,” he said. “I have no intention of going before this committee or supplying any documents whatsoever.”

"...obese little Kapo ..."

Most excellent use of "Kapo". I am going out on a limb here and say a majority, even here on FR, have no idea of what a Kapo is/was.

Cudo's to you as it is a most accurate description of Nadler.

For the media:

Democrat pleading the fifth: Presumption of innocence!
Republican pleading the fifth: Must be guilty!!!!!

For the record, I’m not a lawyer.

Nadler can ask a question....theI don’t think the witness is under any obligation to give an answer that is a direct answer to that question. It could be I can’t recall per Hillary, or go “F” yourself, or some other non-sequitur. The witness answered, just not in the manner demanded by the inquisitor so the idea of contempt of congress is moot.

Were Nadler to bring up contempt of congress I would reply I don’t hold congress in contempt...only YOU.

He doesn’t have to appear unless he is compelled to, and we haven’t reached that point yet.

His reply to Nadler’s request states “I have elected not to participate. I’m executing my Fifth Amendment right given the fact that I’m facing this legal proceeding in Washington,” he said. “I have no intention of going before this committee or supplying any documents whatsoever.”

Now Nadler can take that as his final offer and move on. OR Nadler could subpoena him and force him to appear, but to what end if Stone’s already said he’s not talking?

Vindictiveness?

Maybe, but politically it wouldn’t look good to anyone but the most rabid Leftists.

Personally I think Nadler will move on. Nothing to see here.

If he sends a subpoena, he has to appear. But they cannot compel a word. He can and will take the 5th.

This guy can be a moron at times.

He has no legal standing to determine that he doesn't have to answer a subpoena because it relates to a "fishing expedition."

He can simply invoke his Fifth Amendment rights and refuse to testify, instead of engaging in these drama queen theatrics.

It worked for all the Obamanoids. All non-lefties should be taking the Fifth. It shuts the Buffoons on the Hill down in a heartbeat. Don’t fall for their “perjury trap”, TAKE THE FIFTH!

No, the Fifth has guilty implications.
Use the Hillary defense...

It’s ok. I am. He’s good to invoke the 5th. The reason for the weasely kind of stuff you cite is so that the person doesn’t “look guilty” by invoking the 5th

You can’t say “I don’t recall” to every question though.

Good plan. And give the middle finger salute continuously, that’s protected speech you know and might minimize your airtime on CNN. Take full advantage of all the techniques the libs have perfected. And if they threaten contempt say you’ll file an equal protection suit unless they do the same for Hillary, Blowsy Ford, Struck and Page and all the other liars.

Oh no, he will not move on. They want him in the witness seat, taking the 5th on everything. In our culture people have twisted that into something only guilt people do. Nadler would love that.

“He has no legal standing to determine that he doesn’t have to answer a subpoena because it relates to a “fishing expedition.””

He sure does. He can decide that this is a fishing expedition and one of it’s goals is to look for a way to prosecute him. That is pure 5th amendment. Laughable to think HE has no legal standing to decide.

He doesn’t have to appear unless they subpoena him. And then, even, he can challenge the validity of the subpoena before he shows his face before Nadler’s committee. At that time, Nadler will have to show his hand and if he’s on a fishing expedition he’ll have to say it. Of course, before a like minded judge, which they will make sure they get, Stone will probably lose, initially. But he can continue to keep fighting until it reaches SCOTUS, for all it matters.

And, if he’s forced to show up, then he can plead the 5th.

However, I’d love to see him show up and then start playing Candy Crush on his phone and not say a damn word.

"NEVER speak to the police without a lawyer. They are NEVER on your side.."

That's for sure. I once got involved in a rather simple situation where the police were called after-the-fact. They called my home the next day, when I was at work, and my wife contacted me at my job to tell me. 'No problem', I thought. I left work immediately, and went to the police station to talk to them, to tell them what had happened.

At one point, I became uncomfortable with a question that suggested that the other party had fabricated an accusation of something I hadn't done, so I said at that time that I wanted to consult an attorney.

I later found out that they wrote in their report of my visit that I was 'uncooperative'.

“He can simply invoke his Fifth Amendment rights and refuse to testify, instead of engaging in these drama queen theatrics. “

The entire attack against him has been theatrics. The Mueller probe is a farce and a fiction. The FBI raiding him with a bigger force than raided Osama’s house, complete with two armed boats in the back in case Stone tried to lead them on an ersatz Miami Vice boat chase down the canals. The entire case has been drama and theatrics.

And you want him to be a good little republican and meekly follow the process like a good docile little mouse. Fight fire with fire I say. Call it a farce and a fishing expedition. Do not dignify it by showing normal respect for the process.
