On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo announced new efforts to prevent American overseas funding from supporting abortion. While the Trump administration had already implemented what is called the "Mexico City Policy," this recent change makes that existing policy more effective. Democrats have slammed the Trump administration as "abortion-obsessed," but this policy is extremely popular, as are restrictions to late-term abortion.
"Your administration is abortion-obsessed," Rep. Lois Frankel (D-Fla.) told Pompeo in a hearing on Wednesday. "Youre so obsessed with it that the side-effects are devastating the health and are going to continue to devastate the health of women around the world."
Many Democrats have indeed seized on abortion as a vital "women's health" issue, even though the vast majority of abortions are elective and have nothing to do with threats to a woman's health.
As for the Mexico City Policy, it merely involves cutting American funding to organizations that promote abortion overseas. The new expansion cuts funding to organizations that provide funding to such groups.
"We will refuse to provide assistance to groups who provide funding to other groups" that promote abortion, Pompeo said in an announcement at the State Department. "American taxpayer dollars will not be used to underwrite abortions," he added. "This is decent; this is right."

In 2017, when President Trump reinstated the Mexico City Policy, a Knights of Columbus (KOC)/Marist poll found that a whopping 83 percent of Americans supported it.
This past January, another KOC/Marist poll found that 75 percent of Americans said they "opposed" or "strongly opposed" "using tax dollars to pay for abortion in other countries," while only 19 percent "supported" or "strongly supported" it. Another 6 percent said they were unsure.
Democrats have embraced increasingly radical positions on abortion, with New York's extremely radical abortion bill removing protections for wanted babies and Virginia's (stalled) bill making abortion legal up until the beginning of labor. Gov. Ralph Northam (D-Va.) started a nationwide debate on infanticide by endorsing the killing of unwanted babies who survive a botched abortion. More Americans and even more Democrats have started identifying as "pro-life" rather than "pro-choice," after the radical abortion push.
No benefit comes from mass murdering our offspring, Demonrats.
Excluding the political donations that you receive from the baby murderers that you protect, of course.
Abortion is the sacrament of the Democrat religion.
going to continue to devastate the health of women around the world.”
There is no Constitutional authority for the US taxpayers to be forced at gunpoint to pay for abortions in foreign countries in any way, shape, or form.
None.
L
Dems calling someone else “abortion obsessed”.
Obsessed with saving innocent lives while enemy dems work to preserve the lives of heinous adult murderers.

Pompeo Abortion-Obsessed?
I suggest these critics go peer in the nearest mirror, it is they who are truly obsessed with abortion.
Aside from the ethics and morality of abortion, there also arises a separate (but related) debate about the ethics and morality of paying for abortion.
Lets separate the issues and deconstruct them.
For the sake of debate, lets replace the word abortion with appendectomy.
Hardly related procedures in a moral sense the first usually is almost never a medical necessity and the second rarely ever occurs until it is absolutely a medical necessity.
Yet, we dont go around establishing centers devoted exclusively to performing appendectomies.
We build hospitals where an array of medical procedures are performed including, when necessary, appendectomies.
Why is it necessary to build centers dedicated to abortion procedures?
Why is it necessary to create organizations like Planned Parenthood that operate as quasi instrumentalities of government for the sole purpose of performing abortions?
While we do fund medical aid for third world countries, why is it necessary to establish a separate stovepipe funding mechanism specifically for abortion?
Thats insane.
While appendectomies often are near-medical emergencies abortions almost always are elective procedures.
Why should the US federal government be involved in a scheme to confiscate wealth, under threat of severe punishment, from a rancher in Red Lodge, Montana to pay for an elective abortion for a non-US citizen in another country?
The answer is it is wholly improper for the US government to seize money from its citizens to fund elective abortions in other countries.
Like a facelift, an abortion is an elective procedure and the US government should not pay for one anytime, anywhere for anybody; not in the US nor anywhere else.
And it is utterly immoral to make a citizen pay for an unnecessary procedure which violates the moral conscience of a vast majority of Americans.
And Pompeo is accused of being obsessed with abortion?
Our adversaries have NO moral conscience.
And for some reason, its considered impolite to say so.
America, Please Wake Up...
You can cut the irony with a chainsaw.
I read something the other day that some dirtbag said, “sure....YOU come and raise that kid for 18 years”.
I am more than appalled and agree with FReepers here. Obsessed with the rights to abort even after live birth (murder) but hate the death penalty for the worst, heinous among us?
The Dems complain that Pompeo and the Trump administration is abortion obsessed, when in reality it is leftist Democrats who are abortion obsessed.
It is more accurate to say that Republicans/Conservatives are obsessed with saving the lives of little babies, both unborn and newly born.
'Obsession' is the DNC Talking Points Memebuilder Calendar for March, apparently.
If you are a Democrat, every live birth is a cosmic failure.
