Much much better 12 years later but my record was about 64 hours awake. Also couldn’t sleep the first few years for more than 15 minutes at a time most of the time.

A lot of our vets STILL experience these things and it’s SO HARD to treat.
I guess whatever part of the brain controls the rhythm is damaged.
I had cerebellum, thalamus and brain stem injury.
These soldiers’ injuries are widespread in the brain.
I’d been having problems sleeping for a few years. Maybe get two hours at a time. But now, I free range and nap/sleep regardless of the time. Why else would I be posting at this hour? This is working for me, but then my dog doesn’t mind and there’s no one else I report to. Some nights, I’m up all night, others not.

For a while i’ll sleep normal then 3 months later back to a few hours here and there.
Wake up with tremors and incredible headache. Docs say something wrong going on during sleep wake cycle. Had NO IDEA how complex waking up was!!! :)
It makes work tough sometimes but i get enough.
Melatonin does NOTHING.

I don’t think I produce melatonin anymore, at least it doesn’t feel like it.
The problem started when I was, maybe, 65. That was ten years ago. I attribute it to aging, as I have seen several studies on “Why Grampa Can’t Sleep,” and speculation that it is an evolutionary behavior to have old folks keep watch while the yutes slept. Yeah, it sounds like a ‘just so’ story to me, too.

Has it never occurred to schools that they could change the start time easier than the nation could change every clock they own twice a year?
I know, both parents have to work, one to feed the family, the other to feed the government.
I think it’s more the constant change that’s the problem, not one or the other.

Did you ever try melatonin? I follow the vet brain injury boards and have never heard of it working!

DST is retarded. Accept the astronomy of your location or go to where it suits you.
Pretty constant 12 hour days in the tropics.
Longer days further N/S in their summer. Move seasonally.
If you want to play w/clocks instead, why not just say sunrise is 7am and sunset is 6pm. Speed clocks accordingly.

Regarding the time changes, I always did wake and go to work in the dark. Sunrises make it worth getting up that early.

Kids shouldn’t be going to school so early anyway.
And what difference does it make if early workers start in darkness, as otherwise in the winter they’d be ending in darkness? Better to have sunlight for after work and after school activities, no doubt.
Sounds like you’re doing ok. I’m still experimenting with free range sleeping and haven’t settled into a routine. It’s been a month and I’m all over the map.

You live North or South of about 25 degrees latitude and daylight will be shorter in Winter and longer in Summer.
The closer to the poles you are the more exaggerated it is, to the point that above 90 degrees the Sun never sets in Summer and never rises in Winter.
So people have been dealing with this for millennia.
People are so stupid. Things were just fine until some idiot cooked up “Daylight Savings Time.”
That just passed here in WA - year round DST.
