THAT’S CAPITALISM!!!!!
I wonder if Amazon will have good control over the quality of delivery.
I love the creativity applied here, but it seems kind of ridiculous to me. Now you can work for Amazon during the day ... and then work for the company at night and on weekends, too!
Bean counters figured it out contractors are cheaper than employees with benefits. ROCKET SCIENCE!
This could be a win-win for the employees who figure out how to really make this work and execute.
Owner operators always seem to be in trouble with the IRS. They loose out in the end.
Amazon is not turning over a profitable part of their business for sure.
You can count on no benefits, no overtime, and driving your car into the ground. At the end of the day, you’d probably make more money handing out fries at McDonald’s.
Now you can work for Amazon during the day ... and then work for the company at night and on weekends, too!
...
I think the article implies that they would be leaving their old jobs.
Some people make it work, some don’t.
Don’t care for owner of Amazon but their delivery process is nothing short of amazing.
I have actually gotten items delivered the same day I ordered them 99% of the time within 3 days at most. Since I am careful purchase at the level which allows for free shipping it is an all around excellent experience.
I see. I always read more than just the headlines here on FR, but I dont give clicks to outside media outlets all the time. Thank you!
A go getter will figure out how to leverage things to his advantage, and expand and profit.
No need to click. It’s in the excerpt:
The retailer says it will fund the startup costs up to $10,000 as well as the equivalent of three months of the former employees last gross salary, to give the employees the ability to get their new business off the ground without worrying about a break in pay.
Thanks. I did not pick up on that. So this is really a severance program for Amazon, he?
Thieves can get paid to peep your property.
I think it’s voluntary with an incentive, not a severance.
And will Amazon also pay for the medical bills, and funerals when accidents, assaults, robberies, and murders occur to these delivery people?
Amazon has only ONE profitable part of their business: Amazon Web Services. Accounts for 93% of total profits.
I wonder if there are limitations on who the deliverers can work for in the contract with Amazon. If they can deliver for multiple clients: Amazon, Wal-mart, Target it would likely be a winning situation, but if they are at the mercy of just Amazon then it could easily backfire.
RIGGED
The first Amazon hickup in delivery pay, and you go bankrupt from single source poor risk.
