In areas with a large number if deliveries with short distances you might to good. In rural areas, not so much.

Also, as I understand it, a ‘Contractor’ must have sources of revenue other than Amazon. If solely a deliverer for Amazon, they are considered an Employee! (Tricky sometimes)

I want Amazon to make my product in my home in less than an hour.

And the lawyers undoubtedly figured out that the litigation risk in the company lay largely in driving trucks around.

Best to lay that off closest to the person driving said truck. Makes them safer, too, because people take less risk with their own stuff.

When you are a worker on a 1099 contract, YOU get to pay the entire Soc Sec & Medicare deductions from your pay. You also have to file deposits every quarter with the IRS for your taxes.

The 7.65% deductions as an employee becomes 15.30 % as a contractor. You may also have to get a business license & follow other rules in your area.

The chance for success here is minimal for the average person. Any business takes hard work and sacrifice.

Partly true, the thing is, it won't take a genius to start and operate the business, just good old fashioned hard work.

Good for Amazon.

Buy your own truck/van and work when you want to. Sounds more than fair. Don’t work on your kid’s birthday.

If you live near a shopping center that has a Walmart/Target it’s a win win.More people working longer hours and getting off their dead asses. Women can do it for smaller items.

As an independent contractor:

“YOU get to pay the entire Soc Sec & Medicare deductions from your pay. You also have to file deposits every quarter with the IRS for your taxes and SS/MC payments.

I did a gig as an IC a year after I retired for a small business. I did consulting and got paid a nice per day rate and expenses.

As you noted paying both sides of the Social Security, California Taxes and Federal Taxes quarterly, we had set up a savings account where I deposited 60% of my gross pay to pay for all the above.

Part of my early retirement benefit at age 56 was the company paid what I was expected to get as my social security at age 62. That was about $1200 per month.

When I turned 62, that $1200 disappeared from my monthly retirement check. I made fairly good money consulting, if I made over a certain $ amount, I was penalized and lost a large part of my SC check each month/qtr..

Our CPA, a family friend explained this to me, and said that I shouldn’t work any more. I understood, but my wife didn’t understand it.

Finally, our CPA told her to buy a New Homer HD Bucket to fill it up with $20 bills and sit in the back of my pickup on every Friday evenings and throw the money out to the so called homeless on Main Street as I drove by.

Then, go buy a McD burger and share it for our Friday dinner.

Or I should stop working and learned how to maximize our 401k’s and IRA’s, which I did.

Getting out ahead of attempts to unionize them under the next Democrat administration.

Nah, haters gonna hate. It’s what they do.

No health insurance. No social security contribution. No work comp insurance. No 401K contribution. No unemployment insurance. No disability insurance.

Yeah, the liberal billionaire, richest man on the planet, has decided to forego all these benefits to their employees and offer them the opportunity to work for Amazon without any of the benefits of being an employee.

Hypocrites.

Haters are going to hate, as you say.

Typically the people doing all the hating and criticizing have never done anything useful in their own lives.

Keep in mind that Trumps new tax plan has a lot of incentive for this situation...……………………

It rewards self employment...…………………...

LOL - working for a package delivery company, I have seen pictures of packages on car windshields, in the middle of the lawn, in the road and run over, and other places. I think my favorite one was the one tossed onto the roof.
