NASA has announced that it will put a woman on the moon in the next five years, although a hefty bill is attached to the mission. [Reuters / Joey Roulette]
- This summer marks the 50th anniversary of the Apollo landing, and in celebration, NASA has announced a special name for the upcoming initiative. It will be called Artemis, the Greek goddess of the moon who is also Apollos twin sister. [The Verge / Loren Grush]
- The price tag isnt cheap though: The space agency has asked for a$1.6 billion in addition to the $21 billion that has already been requested for the upcoming fiscal year, which begins in October. [Quartz / Tim Fernholz]
- The program is so expensive in part because of the White Houses push to accelerate the program. In March, Vice President Mike Pence said he wanted people back on the moon by 2024, four years ahead of NASAs timeline at the time. [Politico / Jacqueline Klimas]
- The catch about the additional $1.6 billion: The Trump administration is trying to pull the money from a surplus in Pell Grant funds, which provide financial aid to low-income college students. Despite voices of concern, the administration said that current grant recipients will not be affected by this reallocation of funds. [AP / Jill Colvin]
- Its now up to Congress to approve the budget, and lawmakers have serious concerns about whether an expedited space trip is worth the extra money. [Politico / Jacqueline Klimas]

Really? Our first trip to the moon in over 40 years and the priority is PC virtue signaling?

LOL
You know they couldn’t have these lines in that Honeymooners that was made some years back.
Because America can’t take a joke anymore.
Any IDIOT would know that Alice is NOT THE TYPE to EVER let a man lay a finger on her.
Unlike, say, way too many men that fall into certain groups

Why send a woman to the moon at this point? Or at all for that matter. Send only the best. If it's a women ok but it won't be. Much further down the rode women need to be integrated into missions.
This PC diversity crap has got to go before I can get behind NASA again.

Please...let it be AOC. :) Why not? I didn't hear the "...and return [her] back to the Earth" part.

I know this is an antique notion, but how about we send the BEST QUALIFIED astronaut to the Moon, and not just send a woman because, well...women!
She’d better be a black, lesbian, trans-bi, atheist midget, who has a few abortions under her belt, too!
Yeesh! These people! Do you SEE how STUPID you sound with all of your virtue signaling?
If THIS is the new NASA (which I was happy to see being funded again!) you can have it!
P.S. Scientists? Where is my Flying Car? I’ve been WAITING since 1960!

Great, I can just imaging the amount of suitcases and crap packed into the capsule.
Not to mention having to stop and pee every 3 hours

P.S. Scientists? Where is my Flying Car? Ive been WAITING since 1960! The laws of physics are very unfriendly to your flying car. Perhaps you could petition Congress to repeal them ...
