Actually, UMC REJECTED the lgbtq rights message, mostly because of the African and Filipino church delegates.
That wouldn’t fly in my church. If it did I would no longer be a member.

When I went through confirmation there were at least 60 kids in my class.
But that was a Catholic Parish in 1972 that had 3 standing room only masses on Sunday.

Full disclosure: I was UMC, almost became a missionary, was training for diaconal ministry when I left and became LCMS. I am glad the UMC hasn't bent to the homosexual will (yet), but I want to be where Christ is, whether UMC, LCMS, or elsewhere, and I want the catechumens to bend the knee to Christ.

Obviously these kids are not ready to receive the Holy Spirit as they have chosen being PC about sex over the word of God and his Son, Jesus Christ. Better they not be confirmed right now. Wait until they are more mature. Do not sin against the Holy Spirit.
They should read a Bible someday and then obey God’s teaching. The scriptures are very clear about the sin of homosexuality.

My guess would be that one of them has a single-parent situation, and that parent socialized within the group to introduce this idea and convince the 13/14 year old’s of this stance. Simple but effective brainwashing.

There is actually a schism in the Methodist church over homosexuality. This could be a political grandstanding - moral peacocking - event by the church leadership.
