If I recall correctly those folks who developed sickle cell anemia were more resistant to malaria.
That person, in a tropical climate where there is lots of malaria has an advantage for living.
That same person, in a temperate climate where malaria is not a problem has a genetically linked disease.

Looking at the responses, I am confused so that conservatives would be defending race as a construct.
We only one race: The Human Race.
We’re NOT dogs, cats or other animals that were bred for different temperaments and abilities. We all possess the biggest brain in the animal kingdom, and if taught how to use logic, discernment and how to overcome our emotions and feelings to look at the evidence, we’re all capable of so much!
That’s why we don’t care whether someone is black or white like the democrats do; they think blacks must all think the same lockstep idea that everything is whitey’s fault. No, we conservatives accept all great thinkers, such as Clarence Thomas, Thomas Sowell, or Candace Owens, and don’t even consider their race or color.
It’s what’s in their heads and hearts that matters.
