Silencers are nice as the reduce the noise while target shooting. They don’t really silence gunfire like the movies except maybe on a 22.

“2) His comment reflects gross, inexcusable ignorance (at best). Such ignorance is unworthy of a President.”

I agree that President Trump should spend more time learning and listening, and less time talking. I knew that he wasn’t exactly on top of things when he didn’t know what the “nuclear triad” was during one of the debates (or an interview, I don’t remember).

Still, his policies are excellent for the most part, and he does seem to listen to the experts when it matters.

Trump/Pence 2020!!!

I’m pro 2A and noise control isn’t part of it

You would think different if you spent any time on the range.

Suppressors are an ear saver above all.

Plus the sound they deaden will not disturb those liberal anti-2A residents that live close.

The Second Amendment has nothing to do with whether you like it or not, Mr. President.

What part of "shall not be infringed" do you fail to comprehend?

None of it, something that you have incorrectly inferred from my comment.

GHWB didn’t have jack crap to do with restricting silencers. Educate yourself...

And either way, all he did was voice a dislike for them. He never said anything about wanting to get rid of them.

Donald Trump is a very activist President. Presidential opinions can very quickly become executive policy. Policy based on gross ignorance (and the President has shown himself to be grossly ignorant about guns and related things) is always extremely bad. He needs to either get educated (preferrable) or simply shut the hell up. Attacking firearms ownership does not make America great.

A loud gunshot would have been sufficient to ward off burglars.

You're arguing like Joe Biden ... and from a position of gross ignorance.

GHWB had everything to do with banning the import of what gun-control freaks call "assault weapons".

Educate yourself.

They are properly called suppressors. Other than some corner cases (small caliber, low velocity, sealed manual breech or gas sealed revolver), they don’t actually “silence” a firearm any more than a ‘muffler’ makes a car completely silent. You can still hear the shots (and on a selfloader, the action of the weapon) but the sound pressure level is not hearing endangering any more. The “silencer sound” played in Hollywood is not what almost all suppressed firearms sounds like. A .45 ACP pistol firing through your typical suppressor makes a sound like dropping a hardback book off a shelf and you can clearly hear the surprisingly loud sound of the action cycling. It is not at all ‘silent.’

As for legitimate reasons, please see my post upthread.

Really, you can’t think of a reason to use a suppressor while shooting? Are you stupid?

“Silencers” are not really silent... But a lot of people who are familiar with weapons know that. It seems Hollywood and the press and even some politicians, Trump included, don’t understand that you can’t really Silence firearms effectively. You can suppress the noise somewhat but it’s still very audible, nothing like Hollywood would portray as a whispering fart sound.

The most effective suppressor I ever witnessed was an automatic .22 with a low velocity cartridge fired with a suppressor and it was fairly quiet. I’ve also heard suppressed 12 gauges which because the gas is coming out of the tube at a slower rate it is a little bit easier to suppress. But most weapons unless they are firing a very specialized cartridge are not even really affected by a suppressor, and most low velocity rounds loaded for suppression use aren’t really that quiet either.

I think it’s important to know that it is another one of those black gun arguments because they are black and assault looking they must be something evil about them. They are not e-vile Hollywood’s false betrayal seems to have oozed into the mindset of many people who just don’t know squat about weapons.

If you really want to promote gun control in this country, Hollywood is going to have to stop making movies with gun violence in them, or guns at all. Perish that thought...

He would do well to listen to some firearms experts.

GTF Out of here with your hatred of the Constitution.

Some people, like dp0622, cannot stand any criticism of their god, Trump.

While he's better than anything the Dims can put up, he's by no means above criticism, or even truly conservative.

To get full suppression on any caliber you must go subsonic. The crack of the projectile is what leaves the tale tale sounds of a suppressed weapon.

“What’s the purpose of suppressors? I thought those were only used by hit men on TV. I’m pro 2A and noise control isn’t part of it.“

This is why we lose. I can’t even count on people who should be on my side.

A silencer takes a handgun from sound levels that are hearing damaging to something between a nail gun and a jackhammer depending on caliber.

They make shooting easier on the user.

None of that matters. Rights are not justified by “need” or “purpose”.

When I start shooting I want people from far and wide to ride to the sound.

> His comment reflects gross, inexcusable ignorance (at best). <

People can be solidly pro-2A and still draw the line at different places. I’m curious, where do you draw the line? Is there any type of weapon that you would prohibit? Machine guns? Flamethrowers? Bazookas?

That might sound snarky, but it’s not meant to be. I’m genuinely curious.

As for me, I pretty much like the prohibited list the way it is now. My major beef is the lack of uniformity in 2A rights across the country. A person can open-carry in some states but not in others. That’s not right.

Was the shooter wearing some form of footwear?

Ban shoes!

Did the shooter eat anything earlier in the day?

Ban food.
