GOP lawmakers discuss vote to block Trump’s new tariffs on Mexico, in a dramatic act of defiance

Congressional Republicans have begun discussing whether they may have to vote to block President Trump’s planned new tariffs on Mexico, potentially igniting a second standoff this year over Trump’s use of executive powers to circumvent Congress, people familiar with the talks said.

The vote, which would be the GOP’s most dramatic act of defiance since Trump took office, could also have the effect of blocking billions of dollars in border wall funding that the president had announced in February when he declared a national emergency at the southern border, said the people, who spoke on the condition of anonymity because the talks are private.

Trump’s plans to impose tariffs on Mexico — with which the United States has a free-trade agreement — rely on the president’s declaration of a national emergency at the border. But the law gives Congress the right to override the national emergency determination by passing a resolution of disapproval.

"If you going to take over the GOP and run it parallel with Trump’s agence..."

And, that's what we are doing where WE are....you have to TAKE OVER....you cannot just sit on the sidelines bitching. Actually, our party is probably more conservative than President Trump.

I'm just tired of keyboard warriors...that is all. Are any of you PCPs? Ever been one?

(Not specifically directed at you sparklite2)

Yeah...just keep on being a key stroke warrior....bwhatever. We’re in the process of having to choose a replacement for a GOP State Senator (who died) right now...

I don’t think President Trump would be enamored of your great NON efforts. But, keep on keepin on...

Trump has been the only candidate your party has nominated since Reagan who has been worth a damn, and despite me not being an R, I worked the midterms phones for the GOP knowing it would help DJT. One would think Republicans would welcome Trump voters like me into your tent, but your comments suggests otherwise, which doesn't surprise me at all.

Trump exactly appeals and wants to appeal to voters who, like him, want to make America great again, not get caught up in petty partisan fights.

So, be sure to vote next election, reelect president Trump.

Sorry to offend you

What is the alternative ? A slow but sure devolvement into
Alinskyite Leftist socialism ?

I truly believe it has come to a point of fight or surrender . It’s time to totally think out of the box . Nothing is stopping the commies from doing so . When they assume total power will they be kind or forgiving to us? Very doubtful .

We have a great leader RIGHT NOW. Go with that .
He is healthy , strong, bold, indomitable .
Why keep choosing among the losers ?
Is that ‘the American way’ ?

Sorry but utter failure of everything we have ever been is not worth attending to a process which has become so corrupted to crash into Leftist ill ends and outcomes.

Plenary powers

I won’t give the comPost a click. Does this name names, or is it the usual “sources say” stuff?

It's not true on any account.

Thank you for your expert opinion; you no doubt missed the meaning of my post.

In order to avoid being argumentative in that reply to another, I stated his two points may be true, not that that they were true.

The gist of the post, appearing in the next sentence was whether, based his statement, the OP believed the U.S. should engage in trade even with anti-American counties. I think it is clear at this point that the current leftist government in Mexico chooses to not be a friend of the U.S.

But for the numerous and very deep commercial relations with Mexico I would be inclined to slam the border shut until it began to act as a responsible nation. Such behavior might have a beneficial influence on its next elections. It certainly would save our taxpayers and institutions a hell of a lot of money.

Yes! They are undermining him!!!
What about shut border down completely!!!! what happened to that idea? Tell Cornyn to get the chamber whores under control or we are closing up the entire border.

What the &$%# is up with chicks in the military like (McSally & Ernst) whoring for the Chamber? Can anyone explain the wet noodle non- patriot types who backstab the best patriot president we’ve had in ages?

I said “American” population; our government admits to 20% of people in the US speaking a foreign language at home, so I’d imagine the real number is even higher.

Have you seen our under-20 population recently?
