Two write-in candidates won nominations for seats on the Southmoreland School Board, ousting one incumbent and putting the current board presidents position in jeopardy this fall.
Westmoreland County elections officials Monday approved a precertification of the results of the May 21 primary. Barring any court challenges, those vote totals will become official June 10.
The totals included more than 4,400 write-in votes cast in the Southmoreland School Board race. Four incumbents were among the five candidates on the ballot seeking five board seats. According to the official results, about 58% of all votes cast in the Southmoreland School Board race were for write-in candidates.
Incumbent Ken Alt lost his board seat.

They turn out 100% of their people to vote and the public is lucky to turn out 20%. So, come November, the typical result is that both parties offer the same union picks on the ballot. The union gets to continue to bleed the taxpayer for higher costs with declining results and enrollment.
Well, maybe not this year. In our district, only two of the PSEA backed candidates advanced to the November ballot and one of those has a good chance of being voted out.
Looks like our neighbors in Southmoreland County have set up a similar opportunity . . . and with write-in candidates.
Hmmm... natives be restless. An excellent sign.
Restless and fed up . . . especially with a school board that sees themselves as a wholly owned subsidiary of the PSEA. Not a few of them are, in fact, retired teachers or spouses of teachers and administration. It is just that blatant and incestuous.
