Mother of murdered New York girl pleads for state to block release of daughter’s killer

The mother of a 16-year-old girl who was brutally murdered in 1980 is urging a New York parole board to reconsider its decision to release her daughter’s killer next month.

Lois Bohovesky, whose daughter Paula was beaten, sexually assaulted and stabbed to death as she walked home from a library in Pearl River, N.Y., called it an “injustice” for the state to grant parole to Richard LaBarbera, one of the two men convicted in her murder...

LaBarbera still hasn’t taken responsibility for the murder

...

“The medical examiner said he’d never seen so brutal an attack,” she said. “Think about what would happen if they did it again. I’m not sure I can handle that.”

“If Governor Cuomo can do anything, please for God’s sake, reverse the decision

...

A parole board of Cuomo appointees informed the family last week that LaBarbera will be released in July – a move that shocked victim advocates, state lawmakers and a town that has never healed from the savage murder of Bohovesky, an aspiring actress, gifted artist and honor student.

...

LaBarbera, 66, who was out on parole for a drug-related offense at the time of the killing, has never claimed responsibility for Bohovesky’s death – a common prerequisite before a criminal is released. Neither has McCain, 58, who goes before the same parole board on June 10.

...

He’s never accepted responsibility for it so how can he be sorry?

...

Many New York lawmakers claim the state is determined to lower the prison population and, in doing so, has adopted a system that puts the criminal before the victim.

Wow.

This is insanity.

Punch someone and they hit the curb and die, I guess there should be a chance to get out of prison one day.

Robbery. Sure. Depending on circumstances the first time.

BUT THIS?!?!?!?

Parole?!?!

God forbid this happen to my child.

But, if it did, I assure you I would be at the parole hearing BEGGING the perp be released as soon as possible.

Prison is paradise compared to the immense suffering I would visit upon him. It would take months.

Agreed.

My life’s intent would be to cause as much earthly torment to them as possible. Any consequence would be worth it.

So it will be up to the male relatives of the murdered girl to administer the “prison justice” that his fellow inmates were unable and/or unwilling to administer.

The ‘prison justice’ FReepers slaver over is largely nonexistent in the real world. But, I suppose, it’s as satisfying as ‘wait ‘til he meets Jesus.’

This is why you have a death penalty.
This is why all death sentences should be automatically appealed, affirmed and carried out within no more then 5 years of the original conviction!

I agree. Only automatic appeal, I’d dump, and one year max.

Ask Whitey Bulger about the nonexistence of prison justice. And then ask Jeffery Dahmer.

Bulger was killed in prison by the mafia.... Ya think? That’s not prison justice, but more organized crime. Anyone here think the mob doesn’t have influence if not direct action ability on the US prison system?

He’s 66, how’s his health? Parole boards are all about putting sick old bastards back on the street because medicare/medicaid is cheaper than prison healthcare.

SOB’s might actually die faster on the outside than on the inside because they can’t afford the co-pays. He may end up living under a bridge once he leaves the transitional housing.

But they can’t say any of this out loud to the victim’s family.

There’s a death penalty in Utah also. A 21 year old criminal recently murdered his 5 year old neice. Search parties couldn’t find the body (despite it supposedly later being found only 1/2 block from her home). So the death penalty was taken off the table within a few days. But rest assured, the DA says he’s going to do all he can to make sure the perp never sees the light of day.
