There is something wonderfully childlike in the inability of California liberals to figure out what to do about the frightening rise in homelessness. If the circumstances were different, you might refer to their naivete, ignorance, and stupidity as endearing, adorable, even cute.
But their utter disconnect from reality has real-world consequences for tens of thousands of people who are victims of their idiotic policies.
National correspondent for the Los Angeles Times Matt Pearce tweeted out the grim statistics:
Spikes in this years homeless counts across California:
-Los Angeles 🆙 16%
-San Francisco 🆙 17%
-Orange County (since 2017) 🆙 43%
-Ventura, San Bernardino and Kern Counties 🆙 20% or more https://t.co/SFAF8k6slW

Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas appears to be perplexed about why there has been a spike in homelessness:
At this point of unprecedented wealth in the county of Los Angeles, we are equally confronted with unprecedented poverty manifesting itself in the form of homelessness, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas told The Times.
Maybe it's because only the wealthy can afford to live there?
In a statement, Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti called the increase in homelessness heartbreaking, but said he was he hopeful about the citys recent work to alleviate the crisis, including an investment of $42 million to respond to public health concerns and intensify street-based services.
This work has never been for the faint of heart, and we cannot let a set of difficult numbers discourage us, or weaken our resolve, Garcetti said in a statement to The Times.
The city has spent billions to try and address the homeless problem proving once again (if proof were needed for anyone but a liberal) that throwing taxpayer money at a problem doesn't solve anything. Also note Garcetti's response to the crisis is to shovel more money into services that benefit residents, but only after they become homeless.
Is that an exaggeration? Surely, you jest:
But among others in L.A. County, the point-in-time count crushed the optimism from last years tally, when a modest decrease in homelessness was recorded. The uptick left officials struggling to understand how the tide could have turned so badly in a year when millions of dollars had been spent rolling out new initiatives to move people into shelters and permanent housing.
Incredibly, there are thousands of Californians who are homeless despite being gainfully employed.
A 2017 survey of the homeless population in San Francisco found 13 percent of respondents reporting part or full-time employment. Thats in a city with an estimated 7,499 people experiencing homelessness.
This year, an estimated 10 percent of the 4,990 people living unsheltered in San Diego said they were currently working.
Los Angeles County has more than 50,000 residents who are homeless. Eight percent of adults surveyed in 2017 said they were working to some degree, mostly in part-time, seasonal or temporary work. Among homeless adults with children, 27 percent said they were working either part or full time.
If the radical lefties attended a community college course in Capitalism 101, they would be shocked to learn that the reason there are so many homeless people is because of government policies that stifle economic growth and prevent developers from building enough housing units at a reasonable cost.
The burgeoning population of homeless in California, now estimated at some 150,000 people, is a problem that could be solved in months if the appropriate political and judicial decisions were swiftly enacted and decisively applied. Instead, there is no indication it will ever be solved. The state has become a magnet for the welfare cases of America as well as the expatriates of the world, at the same time as the state has imposed crippling restrictions on the ability of the private sector to build new housing.
California is unaffordable because extreme environmentalists have imposed an agenda of engineered scarcity onto state policymakers that, unfortunately, dovetails perfectly with the agenda of special interestsin particular, public sector unions and bureaucrats, and large corporate land developers and construction contractors.
Virtually all of these special interests are aligned with the Democratic Partythe party of greed, lies, envy, and deception, controlled by leftist plutocrats and their willing accomplices. Until Californias voters wake up and break this immoral, self-serving coalition, there is little hope that housing prices in particular, or the cost-of-living in general, will ever come down in California.
Until the voters wake up and throw the bums out, there is little that can be done to alleviate the suffering.
First, you get rid of the welfare. freebie and ‘look the other way’ magnets that draws these people in. And you get rid of ‘sanctuary cities.’ Deport the illegal aliens.
Set up tent cities (tent barracks) on the outskirts of town. Enforce the vagrancy laws. Round them up and take them to the tent city. Delouse them and clean them up and into clean clothes.
‘Splain the rules to them. Anyone trying to leave the camp without a pass gets a night in the box. Crapping on the floor or ground or anywhere but the crapper gets a night in the box. Skipping a work detail gets a night in the box (work? yup, everybody works!). Wearing dirty clothes gets a night in the box. Drugs, alcohol, weapons or other contraband gets a night in the box. Fighting gets a night in the box.
They build, clean and maintain their camp and grounds. They cook, and serve chow and clean up afterwards. They do laundry and whatever has to be done in a camp full of residents. Even standing watches. Very few city employees should be needed. After a certain amount of ‘good time’ they become available for city work details, schooling, job training, etc. Counseling, classes in civic, family and individual responsibility, religious counseling, etc, avail. Prepare them for life on the outside.
America the sh*thole.
LIB solution: (a) close the mental asylums...set them “free” (1960’s onward); (b) they will seek help for mental problems in community mental health centers (never happened); (c)) lunatics are roaming around and living on the streets being assaulted, raped and so forth. Conclusions: LIBs are lunatics who haven’t the capacity to plan or accomplish anything positive for civil society. LIBs are losers.
I’ve seen some crazy stuff on my 150 mile round trip commute here in KY. A lot of STUPID one car crashes. Fact is, I consider a driver more dangerous if they are texting than a “drunk driver” that blows less than a .2.
And such an offense should be treated as such.
I saw a “crash compilation” video on youtube last week where a guy has a rear facing camera and is rear ended. As the car plows into the back of him you can see the woman driving has her cell phone placed horizontally, resting on the top of her steering wheel.
I’d say a $2,000 fine for a first offense should fix that if it is covered by the local TV news.
California has already thought of that plan. And how to spend $600,000 PER EACH CONTAINER!!!
San Jose moves forward with shipping container housing plan for homeless

” the local government has made it easy and attractive to live on the streets in these cities”
Give a few examples of what the local government does. I’m just ignorant.
Toxic incentives are causing this mess... It’s why we have MORE homeless (as a percentage) than we did during the depression...
California Democrat state house think; Hey, let’s invite more illegals in so we can raise taxes in a false attempt to care for them, thus, putting them on the street.
LA is the third largest Mexican city after Mexico City and Guadalajara.
the funny thing is if someone offers a real solution to this problem, a solid solution, they are going to be called, heartless, racist or worse. CA gov doesn’t was a solution, they want the problem to get worse and worse and eventually the US Gov will have to offer them money disguised as compassion and love.
How about we bus them into Mexico!
Rents are too damn high ! Thats a play out here
The rental market is a true capitalistic free market
When you have more people wanting to live in an area then there are available places Rents go up
Because of the weather here and generous social services people are attracted to California
Why the hell would anybody on the streets ever leave here?
Youve got to do gooders from hell running everything they think that theyre all saints!
Its beautiful schadenfraude to watch this actually
Denver has long been the panhandler’s turf. Couldn’t walk across the open area in front of the capitol building without being approached a few times. The beggars were getting at least the minimum wage per hour. Not from me, of course. They probably had their cars parked nearby and drove home after their day’s work.
Yes,... really...
It just doesn’t cross the Leftist’s mind that they could possibly be making things worth. They “CARE” don’t you know.
Look at welfare and the impact on the Black family.
——Tents housing homeless ——
That is an oxymoron if there ever was one.
The people in question live in tents in what the newspaper called encampments. These people are not homeless, they have tent homes.
They are squatters who have erected their homes on public sidewalks and property.
The city governmnets are loathe to enforce non squatting laws because it will result in political death.
Trump needs to begin hauling in released illegals by the truck load
Add legalized pot to the list.
enforce the laws against sleeping on the street or in public places.
Give citizens tickets to give to beggars for meals at soup kitchens instead money.
No defecating or urinating in public
Enforce drug and public incarceration laws
Triage everyone to screen for mental illness.
Change mental illness laws to allow for custody in 100 bed centers around the state. No mental patient should be living on the street.
This not mentally ill or physically handicapped must find apace to live, apply for welfare, or get a job. No street living.
For every guilty finding double fine or jail time for subsequent offenses.
Aggressive enforcement of laws.
surely things would be much better for them in Mexico. Provide them with means to migrate there and claim asylum with the Mexican authorities.
