We should have stuck a tariff on them until we saw the results.

That is what you and I would do but, on the face of it, you and I are inclined to play hardball especially with someone who names a son after Che. Trump must have a good basis for not doing so at this stage; there are a lot of Americans living in Mexico, etc., etc.

OK! I read that the Mexican army was at their southern border today and shut it down. All of these “migrants” are being trans shipped from Cuba or VZ, in the case of the Africans or Middle Easterners, or being forced up from Guatemala, VZ, Honduras, etc., by leftist forces.

Mexicans actually want their own country back, since it has now become nothing but a pathway to the US. I think Trump actually gave the raving leftist AMLO an out from his open-borders plan. AMLO is a total socialist, but he was elected because the Mexican population has run through the PRI and PAN and they’ve both been corrupt up the the eyeballs and Mexicans hope that it might help if they for somebody new (who was extreme left but sounded like he actually wanted to promote Mexico).

So we shall see. Trump does know how to get a deal, and I think people from other countries respect him, no matter how much the Dems are trying to undermine him.

All the “asylum seekers” need to be returned to Mexico to apply for asylum there, since that was the first country they encountered.

All we need now is a bounty on them and all visa violators and wetbacks.

“Get em out!”

I don’t think Trump negotiated this. I think Pence was lead on this. If there’s not a hard stop to The Invasion this weekend, it was all theater

Yes, and the cartels didn’t sign the agreement. Neither did the military aspects under control of the cartels.

Mexico froze some human trafficker accounts.

Now, I’m hearing the story you just said, that perhaps these guys are organizers of the marches.

Maybe so. At first, I thought, that they caught some kingpin smuggler... but I’ll lean to what Rush and others say, I heard something like that as well.

Mexican Army at their southern border is fascinating. I’m more concerned about their northern border.

That's part of the agreement - they are to be returned to Mexico while awaiting US action.

... for some insane reason they put Pence as the point man on this.

IMO, Pence will do what Trump tells him to do and with energy; otherwise, he won't be on the ticket in 2020.

I didn't realize Pence was open borders; but if he is, we would be better served with a different VP candidate in any event.

We will have to see this before we can believe it.

However, if this turns out to be legitimate, Trump has to receive credit, and a highly corrupt and poor Mexico, will have just proven it is more capable and willing to fix a problem which has been helping to kill our country, than almost the entire elected US Congress whose job it is to protect our borders!

The people coming in on our southern border are mostly not Mexicans. Mexico needs population, because it has been so dysfunctional for so long that anybody of working age who could do so fled to the US. The people trying to break through Mexico’s northern border aren’t Mexicans, but the thousands of Central Americans, Africans and Middle Easterners who are being funded through Cuba and the left.

I think the thing that Trump did that was the most convincing was that he reminded Mexico that its national sovereignty was being violated by this invasion from the south. The Mexicans hate it, and I think AMLO (a raving leftist but elected because he wasn’t from either of the major parties) saw this as a chance to deal with the problem but at the same time not have to take it on himself.

I could not believe that media thought this was about Trade. This was one of The gutsiest moves I’ve seen a President make in decades.

Mexican Army at their southern border is fascinating. I’m more concerned about their northern border.

Mexico southern border 697 miles. Northern border 1,952 miles. Most of the invaders today come from Central America.

Neither land border is the total problem (visa overstays etc.)

>>>Well, what’s the measure of success? What has to happen to keep the tariffs off? Do we have monitors at the border?

I wouldn’t expect much out of this.

Mick Mulvaney acknowledged last weekend there are no concrete benchmarks being set to assess whether Mexico is acting to reduce numbers of migrants from Central America entering the US via Mexican territory.

I bet Sen Cruz now wishes he’d kept his big mouth shut for just a few more hours!

The suspension of the tariffs is up for readdressing in 90 days, based on Mexico’s performance, as per agreement.

Exactly right - ALL it is, is a signature on a piece of paper.

They’ve never lifted a finger to be good neighbors before so let’s see some action on Mexico’s part before we celebrate.

"...this tariff ultimatum also served to uncover the “weak sisters” in the Republican caucus."

As if any Freeper didn't already know them. We don't need more proof we need more retaliation. We have whole agencies in full revolt refusing to carry out orders from their boss.
