Kushner Meets With Bipartisan Architects Of Dreamer Legislation
NPR ^ | 6/18/19 | FRANCO ORDOƑEZ

Posted on 06/19/2019 9:24:16 PM PDT by proust

President Trump's senior adviser and son-in-law Jared Kushner met privately on Tuesday with the longtime Senate architects of plans to provide citizenship for those brought to the country illegally as children.

The meeting has raised concerns among immigration hardliners that Trump's immigration policy is being "watered down," will give Democrats an upper hand and alter the focus of the debate from strictly enforcement to a deal that would include legalization.

It has seemed inevitable for quite some time that Trump would cave on DACA. If he doesn’t get a secure border in return, he shouldn’t do it.

Trumps MAJOR flaw, is his abject lack of filling positions in the government; not to mention his disgusting nepotism.

Out of tinfoil?

Believe it or not but some news is actually somewhat accurate. Like a meeting being called. Where people are actually named.

Nonsense. Trump’s fed picks were rejected by the GOP Senate, DOD nom just withdrew, etc.

What’s “disgusting” is you sitting in the peanut gallery and nitpicking POTUS while he, his family and supporters are under a police state assault.

Oh really?

Session was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO good as AG>

Matis?

Jared?

The DOD who withdrew has not been vetted enough nearly enough!

The new UN pick is a crappy CLIMATE nut case!

And on and on and on?

His judge picks have been good; the rest?

What's truly "DISGUSTING" is what you posted to me!

“NPR really? We are using them as a news source? I’ll be darn.”

Trump offered a deal on DACA a long time ago. He asked for a lot, didn’t get it. But it’s clear he considers it a bargaining chip.

I honestly don’t understand why he turns to Kushner, but Kushner seems to have his thumbs in a lot of pie. NPR isn’t the only news source that’s reporting he’s negotiating with senators on both sides.

I’ll stick with what I said. Trump should not cave on DACA unless he gets real border security in return.

He shouldn’t do it anyway.

He’s already watered down enforcement via the workplace, caved in his budget deal late last year, stalled on hiring the new staff approved in 2017, etc.

We have more illegals than ever and they are additionally pouring in at an unprecedented rate.

Any DACA will end up being an absolutely massive amnesty, as they have take the word on all sorts of criminal illegals in granting it to date—and it will only get worse.

The Kushners are Trump’s single biggest hiring errors.

I agree with “The no wall no DACA.” I’m just not ready to believe NPR about much. As far as other sources, depends on who. Meeting and talking don’t mean much either. I’ll wait and watch for a while to see how DJT goes forward.

“stalled on hiring the new staff approved in 2017, etc.”

I’m drawing a blank on that one. To what are you referring?

I agree with you on the Kushners. Hiring people has not been Trump’s strong suit. He has had a lot of busts in that department. I think it’s because he’s so used to running the show himself and now he has more responsibilities to delegate than to which he has become accustomed. I really don’t see a strong right hand in his administration. Certainly not that wimp Pence.

Here ya go: more staffing Trumpeted, if you will, then never filled. Then interior ICE enforcement redeployed to the border, so less enforcement within the country than under Obama:

The GOP won’t support POTUS on immigration. He needs to herd cats and get everybody to the polls in 2020 to win. So Trump is avoiding intra party conflict at all costs. It’s all about 2020, IMO.

Thanks for the link.

Sounds like the problem isn’t so much that they’ve dragged their feet on hiring people, but more because they have a hard time finding people who will accept the pay and work environment being offered. Assuming that Politico is correct (a bit of a stretch) I really don’t like that lie detector test results are being diluted.

Not being able to hold onto people is a fairly common complaint of those in charge at DHS. Having a strong economy with jobs all over the place doesn’t help.

The net result is they let the positions go unfilled for over two years, rather than offer what it would take to fill them.

After going for the “we’re going to” PR.
