Four reasons why Trump is cruising towards re-election
The Manchester Guardian ^ | June 20, 2019 | Cas Mudde

Democrats should not delude themselves: unless they shape up – and fast – the president is heading for four more years

On Tuesday night President Trump launched his re-election campaign with a by now classic rally in Orlando, Florida. It was a “Greatest Hits rally” in which he accused the Democrats of undermining democracy (by trying to impeach him), talked about the many threats to “this country as we know it”, and even railed against Hillary Clinton (for old time’s sake). In short, Trump’s message for 2020 is: “I made America Great Again, now vote for me so I can Keep America Great.”

Democrats will dismiss the speech as lacking ideas and just fearmongering, while reveling in recent polls that have virtually every major primary candidate defeat Donald Trump in 2020, sometimes by a significant margin. They believe the president is weakened by a broad range of issues, including the Mueller report, the treatment of immigrants at the southern border and the various scandals surrounding key cabinet members.

Remarkably, given the traumatic experience of 2016, many Democrats have still not learned the key lesson of US democracy: elections are not won by passive majorities but by mobilized minorities. And while the passive majority might be with the Democrats, or at least not with Trump, the mobilized minority is. There are (at least) four reasons why, at this moment, Trump is cruising towards re-election...

There is a rumor that next week something starts happening on those lines but the timing is still supposedly fluid.

One of the BIGGEST reasons that is apparently esoteric to the modern media and punditry is a very very simple and fundamentally human one.

Yes, the economy is strong, yes, Trump is delivering on his promises far more than ANY elected president I can think of, Yes, he’s an incumbent... etc etc etc.

All those things mean Trump is going win and win big.

However one of the BIG reason no Democrat is going to have a shot, is simple, and its human nature (or at least decent America nature).... and that’s simply the sense of fair play.

All but the most left wing die hard, knows that Trump has not been given a fair shake, he’s attacked and bashed, everywhere, and never gets any credit for anything good....

That’s going to turn off folks who might give you a shot....

D can’t get the middle, no matter what (short of economic collapse) while the entire media/elite political complex is treating Trump the way they are.

Udder BS. Labor and 'les deplorables' are the invisible majority.

Trump needs to find someone and make him VP or part of the administration...

Ronald Reagan’s biggest mistake George Bush

He trashed Reagan the first day and the Reagan revolution died

Is VP Pence another George Bush ?????

We need a Trump like president for thirty years to drain the swamp

The GOP hated Reagan and were no help..

The no longer around southern democrats passed his tax cuts

Not even close. But, he isn't Trump 2.0 either. He has served well as VP and over the next two years a determination will be made, hopefully by Trump, who can best run in 2024 on the GOP ticket. Lots of time.

The author whines about the lack of a wall as a Trump failure. Who keeps denying the funding? Who passes injunctions against citizens stepping up and building a wall? Stinking, lying leftists, that’s who. We have to physically destroy the left.

What about voter/election fraud?

We all know upwards of a dozen house seats were lost in cali due to ballot harvesting. Has that commie bitch in Broward seen any prison time? If there's no repercussions for doing this stuff, why would we expect them to stop? They will do it ten fold this time around.

The usual Manchester Guardian BS.

Yes only 400 miles of wall have been built. In our system, Congress - specifically the House, controls the purse strings not the President. How can anybody blame Trump when he has clearly done all he could to get more wall built?

The immigration policy is not “brutal” it’s rational. Most of the things the Democrats and their propaganda arm the MSM whine about were done under Obama.....as was building walls on the border for that matter.

Those wanting to secure our border are not “nativist”, they want our laws to be followed. Legal immigration is not much opposed.

Trump has drained the Swamp to the extent that he can which is not much. What he has really done though is thwart the Swamp by repealing many Swamp supported policies and not going along with the big government agenda.

Those Blue collar, mostly White voters? They’ve gotten the start of the first real recovery from the Great Recession. Areas of the country that experienced no uptick at all in 8 years under Obama are finally seeing not just jobs return, but wages go up for the first time in decades.

The Democrats aren’t just divided, they’ve gone completely insane for the most part. The hatred of White Men, the historical revisionism, the attempts to shove sexual deviancy down everybody’s throats, the censorship, the Gaia Worship that would crush our recovery, the attempt to flood the country with foreigners so as to support their political agenda (and give their corporate supporters some cheap labor), the gross infringements on Americans’ 2nd Amendment rights they propose, the disastrous surrender monkey foreign policy and sellout of American national sovereignty to the UN, it just goes on and on. Today’s Democratic Party is just nuts.

Which is precisely WHY the Democrat Platform will be a smorgasbord of Santa Claus items for the ages. Student Loan Forgiveness, anyone?

He is a very traditional conservative values Christian.

With the rate at which this country is becoming libertine I fear he'll be all but unelectable by 2024.

Trump will win again if God chooses to have mercy on this country and give them four more years grace.

Also, for the more shallow female voters, Crenshaw is young and hot and clearly an alpha male type.

For people who value outward charisma over inward character, and appearance over integrity, he’d be a draw to them just cause he’s so good looking.

The big reason the election will be up in the air until the bitter end is vote fraud.

The dems were caught flat footed last election because they honestly did not seriously think Trump had a chance. They were so over confident that Hillary had it in the bag, that they didn’t try the vote fraud until it was way too late.

I don’t think they’ll be caught off guard this time around.

This is complete bunk. Dems were not flat footed on vote fraud in 2016.

Hillary underperformed Obama’s 2012 numbers by about 100k.

This narrative is bunk.

Trump will on the low end get 3-5 million more votes in 2020 than in 16.

There is no route for any D to win. Fight hard, but short of an economic meltdown there is no path for any D to victory

I like Crenshaw a lot as a great man, but I’ve been disappointed too many times with the reflexive government-minded military guys. Also, he is not getting much recognition outside of Texas. I would prefer a successful entrepeneur. Trump did not fit the bill as a social conservative initially, but he quickly found out as an outsider that his only chance of survival was with the die-hards conservatives. The point is that you need a fighter that will follow his own path.
