Former Fox News reporter says he left because of 'partisan misinformation'
The Hill ^ | 06/24/19 | Justin Wise

Former Fox News reporter Carl Cameron said Monday that he left the network favored by conservatives because "right-wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation."

Cameron made the remarks in a promotional video about why he joined Front Page Live, a website whose goal, in part, is to serve as an antidote to the conservative Drudge Report.

"What’s a former Fox guy doing here on Front Page Live, partnering with progressives?" Cameron, who worked at Fox News for more than two decades, said in the video. "Well, it’s about facts, not partisanship."

Cameron, now Front Page Live's chief political correspondent, said that he joined Fox News in its early days because the "idea of fair and balanced news appealed to me."

"But over the years, the right-wing hosts drowned out straight journalism with partisan misinformation. I left," he added, before noting that he has "unique insight and understanding of how the right operates, and literally 30 years of covering Donald Trump."

Cameron said that the job of Front Page Live will be to simply "inform, that's it," and touted the new website as a "a powerful resource for anyone who wants real facts over partisan propaganda."

Front Page Live did not immediately respond to a request for comment from The Hill.

Cameron retired from Fox News in 2008 after serving for 22 years as one of its chief political correspondents. He said in email to colleagues at the time that he would be "immensely grateful for the relationships, experiences, and many lessons over the last two decades,” TV Newser reported.

Cameron told The Washington Post that he had a lot of "respect for the people that try to do journalism" at Fox News. He added that he kept his "personal beliefs very very to myself" while at the network.

Cameron teamed up with Joseph Romm, the founding editor of ClimateProgress.org, to create Front Page Live, The Post reported. The company describes itself on its website as a place "dedicated to helping diverse voices and content go viral, and a news source that reflects the values of the majority of good people on our amazing planet."

"Part of our goal is to be an antidote to the Drudge Report. But whereas Drudge aggregates and viralizes right-wing content, which includes a lot of disinformation and climate science denial, we will aim to aggregate and viralize accurate news," Romm, who serves as editor-in-chief and CEO, said in a statement to The Hill. "We are 'liberal' only in the sense that climate science has been labeled 'liberal' by climate science deniers.

"We are trying to be a place that will save people time because it’s simply way too hard for anyone to sip quality water from open fire-hydrant that is online news and social media – especially because there is so much sewage thrown in."

Romm told The Washington Post that he views the organization as a “viralizing engine” for the left. The site will reportedly be populated with audience-tested headlines. Cameron also said on a promo video that stories will include "act now" buttons for people to get involved in campaigns related to a particular topic.

Cameron waited until he had 20 years in and then retired. Who cares what the man thinks.

“Cameron made the remarks in a promotional video about why he joined Front Page Live...”

He thinks this is a positive career move?

I thought he had just aged out of getting the best live coverage assignments. Ironically, he would fit in today’s Fox News just fine, since it has become far less conservative after the Roger Ailes era.

I’m surprised he didn’t sign up here to pimp his new site.

Left the Right, now left is wrong, and Cameron might just have to leave again, if “facts” actually mean anything. Unknown Progressive blogs are notorious fraudsters.

Well, considering the bunch running FNC right now, ol’ Campaign Carl oughta be very happy.

Not to worry, Carl. FNC is working on its 8 to 11 PM Eastern weeknights problem. I’m sure they’ll have a fix for that soon.

One of the East Coast Newspapers (can't remember if it's the Slimes or the Compost already uses AI on their electronic edition to send out a pilot version of the article with different candidate headlines and has the most click-generating headline defined and chosen, to supplant prior headlines, in a matter of hours.

Fox was situated opposite several vocal hyper-leftist organizations. Don’t think it was a damning idea to put the opposing view on TV, because you NEVER get that viewpoint from the other sources. My guess is he is not as much of a “straight news” guy as he holds himself out to be. Otherwise, a little bit of over-compensation would not have bothered him.

I thought he was a good reporter, one of the few who actually knew conservatives and had conservative sources.

Disappointed he feels he has to throw Fox under the bus to promote his new project.
