Minnesota Lawmaker Calls For Ethics Investigation Into Rep. Ilhan Omar

A Minnesota state representative and leading critic of U.S. Rep. Ilhan Omar is on the attack again, calling for an ethics investigation into Omar.

Omar has found herself in controversy over her personal life as well as state campaign finance violations. She has admitted to the campaign finance violations and has agreed to pay back over $3,000.

The investigation also revealed she had filed joint tax returns with her partner and father of her children when she was still legally married to another man.

Rep. Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa), a persistent critic of Omar, held a press conference Tuesday alleging that she may have committed various forms of fraud as well as perjury. At the press conference, Drazkowski asked for Omar’s colleague, U.S. Rep. Angie Craig (D-2nd District), to call for an ethics investigation in Congress.

Drazkowski says he is asking Craig because she is his Congresswoman. Craig is not on the Ethics Committee; she is on the Agriculture, Transportation and Small Business committees.

WCCO’s Esme Murphy reached out to Congresswoman Craig’s office. They said they had no advance warning of this and are looking it over, at the moment.

Drazkowski alleges that Omar has repeatedly violated state and federal laws, and that’s why he wants the ethics probe. While the Campaign Finance Board did find Omar violated campaign finance laws, they did not refer that case for any criminal charges. In 2016, then U.S. Attorney Andy Luger denied that Omar was under any kind of federal investigation.

Omar has had a busy few days. She was at Sunday’s Twin Cities Pride Parade, and held a news conference with Sen. Bernie Sanders Monday announcing a bill to forgive all student debt.

Some state laws govern “fraudulent practices,” it’s a third-degree felony to “knowingly and willfully ... make or use any false document, knowing the same to contain any false, fictitious, or fraudulent statement or entry” connected to the Department of State. While the fraud statute is not contained in the state’s election code, it relates to the 2018 election because the affidavit in question concerned the elections division, which falls under the Department of State.

===========================

Keep in mind...falsifying official documents is the preferred criminal method to cover-up larger crimes.

REFERENCE--Falsifying Government Documents. involves altering, changing, or modifying a document for the purpose of deception.......can also involve forgery and/or passing copies of false documents. Falsifying documents is usually done in connection with broader criminal aims, such as extortion, government fraud, tax evasion, money laundering, financing terrorism........

Types of documents commonly falsified may include:
◾Tax returns and income statements
◾Personal checks
◾Bank account records
◾Business record keeping books
◾Immigration documents (such as visas, passports, etc.)
◾Identification cards and birth certificates

Many different types of acts can be considered as falsifying a document, including:
◾Altering or misrepresenting factual information such as prices or monetary amounts
◾Stating false information when requested to provide truthful statements
◾Forging a signature
◾Using official letterheads without authorization
◾Concealing assets or property WRT obtaining federal/state grants))
◾Knowingly using or distributing a fake document

A person can only be held criminally liable if they are deliberately acting with the intention of deceiving or defrauding another party.

Falsifying documents is a very serious offense and is generally classified as a felony. This means that a person charged with falsifying documents may be subject to the following legal penalties:
◾Having to pay a monetary fine
◾Incarceration in a prison facility

Depending on the gravity of the offense, as well as individual state laws, falsifying documents can result in a prison sentence of 5-10 years. Also, if government documents or authorities were involved, the legal penalties may be more severe. ..... legal penalties may increase with repeat offenses.

The penalty for falsifying government documents is outlined in the Crimes Act of 1958.

It sounds like you have somebody at least potentially worth supporting who would like her seat. This was a really smart move.

Drazkowski says he is asking Craig because she is his Congresswoman.

Which means that if she doesn’t play ball, someone sharp from this district gets to run against her flaws and Omar’s flaws simultaneously.

Does he stand a chance?

If WCCO is reporting it, she is in big trouble.
Lets see what the Red Star has to say.

Pity. Is the district shifting too much, is there someone else angling for the seat, or is he too much of a nutbar? I was intrigued, did some digging, and noted that this was a Dem takeover in 2018, and not by a huge margin.

Lewis lost because of the continuing movement of Somali and other minorities south of the river.

They hid the fact that Craig was a lesbian well enough that the Somalis voted for her in big enough numbers to squeak her by.

This district is lost forever.

I’m surprised ‘CCO had the nerve to run this story.

I guess trying to play the lesbian card and the Islamic idiot card simultaneously is problematic in a district with a truckload of Somalis. What percentage of the electorate are they?
