This was not a family turned coldly away as it fled violence and oppression. They were not turned away at all. They simply grew impatient waiting for the bureaucratic wheels to turn. Indeed, family members confirm that the family was not being persecuted in its home country:
Oscar worked at a Papa Johns pizza restaurant, where he was earning $350 a month. We have stretched the concept of "persecuted on account of race, religion, or social group" into meaningless if we include those who are (understandably) distressed by low wages. If you blame the terrible deaths of Oscar and Valeria Ramirez on Trump, you must be arguing that the President should have personally moved the Ramirez family to the front of the asylum line. Or else that he should have instated a general policy that grants immediate asylum to anyone in the world who wants to come here for a few years to make some money and then return home. This would be absurd, of course.
They lived off his wage, limiting themselves to $10-a-day, because Tania had already quit her job as a cashier in a Chinese restaurant to care for Valeria, their only child.
...They were not fleeing violence, Tania's mother has since said, but were in desperate search of a life where they could earn more.
Their plan was to spend a few years in America to save up enough money to eventually return to El Salvador and buy or build their own house.

So apparently the father brought the daughter over first and left her alone on the US side of the river, at which point he went back to the Mexican side to get others. The unattended non-swimming daughter then was observed getting back into the water. The father turned around and the deaths ensued. It perhaps would have made more sense to bring an adult across first so that the daughter would not have been left alone.
Anyway you look at this, there is simply no way that this is the fault of the USA or its President.
well, either a wall or provide unlimited numbers of illegal aliens with free ferry boats that their coyotes are too cheap to provide themselves ...
They had a reasonable life in Salvadore ...both worked....admitted they came here to make more money because they wanted to build a new house and din’t want to wait and save they’re money.....rather get here work hard and then go back to build their house.
economic illegals...
LouAvul, They may not be liars. There is something more pathological going on here.
A man who is too stupid to cross a river is not intellectually fit to be American.
The Kid? Collateral stupidity damage.
Because of the Internet every 3rd world-er “sees” what the US people have that they don't. Very few of these illegals are actually refugees.
These days, I'm of the opinion that 51% of the voting public is demon possessed.
Spot on. Everyone seems to have açcepted the picture and story with no questions. Well I don’t. You’re the only other person I’ve seen that actually is questioning the validity of the situation
I question if the father could swim because where they crossed was very narrow.....here's the vother speaks with Mexican authorities after her husband and daughter were swept away by the current
Isn't it funny how this poor French girl run over in Nice went right down the memory hole permanently..? Bastille Day, 2016. NINETY people died, 460 others grieviously injured.
Yet SOMEHOW, the media doesn't show you THIS photo.
If I break into Nancy’s compound and drown in her pool, is she responsible for my death? Just saying...
The couple are fully responsible....period!
They may have drowned, but not there. Bodies placed liked that for photo op.
Hateful for me to say, but if someone saw this happening, why didn’t they help?
What if television, smart phones and modern transportation are driving a lot of this? Smart phones are everywhere even in third world countries. They see a smart phone that a friend has and are introduced to the modern dazzling world of the western nations. It’s like Disney World! They see images of thousands of “migrants” coming to the Promised Land of America. It’s like the California gold rush—mass hysteria.
So a family who are able to support themselves on their salary feel driven to join all the others that they have seen and heard about looking for their dream come true. They feel safe because so many have gone on before them and phone them urging them to try it themselves. They give them tips about how to get through the journey and so on and so on. Sometimes it ends in tragedy.
They drowned but their heads are touching the shore.
