What happened is that a small group of enterprising click-entrepreneurs figured out the game that Facebook was running, and simply built information that had value (you and I can argue over the value), and simply bought ads on Facebook that click-customers to a message that people liked. Facebook made money, the private Russian click-entrepreneurs made money, and the people reading the fake news item were happy.

Right now, the same system exists for people to make money off clicks. Maybe Facebook suggests they resolved this or fixed it, but I don’t believe them.

The “Russians” you mentioned bought what, $100,000 worth of supposedly pro Trump ads in 2016? It’s all bullshit.

Facebook can’t (or WON’T) stop Nigerian scammer from ‘selling’ concert tickets to every event post (fake accounts with account names that don’t match their url name and are out of state for local shows).

“So sad me and my family have to change plans can’t go. DM me for price...”
