Trump administration pursues rule that would remove 3.1 mln people from food stamps

The Trump administration on Tuesday will propose a rule to tighten food stamp restrictions that would cut about 3.1 million people from the program, U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) officials said.

Currently, 43 U.S. states allow residents to automatically become eligible for food stamps through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, known as SNAP, if they receive benefits from another federal program known as Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or TANF, according to the USDA.

But the agency wants to require people who receive TANF benefits to pass a review of their income and assets to determine whether they are eligible for free food from SNAP, officials said.

If enacted, the rule would save the federal government about $2.5 billion a year by removing people from SNAP, according to the USDA.

U.S. President Donald Trump has argued that many Americans now using SNAP do not need it given the strong economy and low unemployment, and should be removed as a way to save taxpayers as much as $15 billion.

"Some states are taking advantage of loopholes that allow people to receive the SNAP benefits who would otherwise not qualify and for which they are not entitled," USDA Secretary Sonny Perdue told reporters on a conference call on Monday.

SNAP provides free food to some 40 million Americans, or about 12% of the total U.S. population.

I was about to watch liberal heads explode until I read the last part of the headline “...from food stamps”

They’ll still explode.

Since when did a liberal want anyone to get off of food stamps?

It doesn’t have to, it’s an administrative rule not a law.

When we start taking away the “freebies” from illegals, they will begin to deport themselves. Stopping Food Stamos from illegals is a good start. Once that is done, we can concentrate on our own fraud and corruption.

Last week my 14 year old beloved Dodge Magnum’s motor went south.

Tonight, we were sitting at Autozone, ordering an AC compressor for the only other vehicle we have, a 21 year old Suburban with no AC and random check engine issues and we’re in triple digit temps

It’s all we have left, and we cannot afford to fix the Mag.

I had to return stuff to stores to get the money for the compressor.

And in pulls a welfare BMW SUV with “teens” driving it.

I thought I was already all cried out but I reckon not.

Always amazes me when I go shopping, usually at Walmart, and see folks with carts overflowing with items, considerable amount of junk food, and I have a few items.

Didn’t food stamps, at one time, only pay for certain items like the staples, not soda, chips and candy?

Remember kids, Pres Obama added 22 million people to the food stamps program. These were not the poorest Americans, because those 25 million were already on food stamps. He added the NEXT 22 million, how did not need food stamps before he came along. Getting those 22 million back to supporting themselves is a GOOD thing.

We jumped from 8% of the entire population on the program, up to 15%. Got that? They want 1 in 7 people (or more) in the top wealth-building nation in world history to be begging the government for food money. Apparently 1 in 12 wasn't nearly good enough.

I know numerous people on food stamps.

Each and every one of them is a smoker and no one is ever out of money for cigarettes.

3.1m? Drop in the bucket. The cuts in almost everything need to be deep so we can finally start moving in the right direction. We can start paying things down right now if we’re not stupid about it. Sorry Mitt Romney.

Anything Trump can do without Congress is better than not being able to do anything because Congress won’t cooperate.

But I agree with you, we need much more aggressive changes about lots of things.

"Impoverished migrants" withdraw 4-5 figure sums......empty out Western Union coffers
americanthinker.com ^ | 6/25/2019 | Monica Showalter / FR Posted on 6/25/2019, 5:40:20 PM by rktman

Fearful migrants have tons of tax-dollars (collected under several identities) from their extended visa-free stays here.

NOTE: Claiming "asylum" triggers hefty monthly SS checks.

The Washington Examiner reports the "impoverished migrants" are cleaning out Western Unions in Texas, making huge withdrawals:

SAN ANTONIO, Texas — People assisting the thousands of migrants who have arrived in San Antonio after being released from federal custody say Western Unions downtown are regularly running out of cash as a result of the high number of withdrawals being made by emigrants from Central American and African nations. “Western Union has run out for the past two-and-a-half months," said Khalid Chini, a local resident and volunteer at the migrant resource center downtown. "All the surrounding area, the Western Unions, they run out of money.” Withdrawals are running in the four and five-figure sums, according to the Examiner: (Excerpt) Read more at americanthinker.com ...

Migrants Western Union pile is aside from the remittances already sent back home to the Third World to which they are anxious to return.....flush with thousands in cash.

Virtually nothing left to sell.

The 8 year reign of error really wiped us out.
