Nine people were killed and 27 others were wounded, the police said. It was the second American mass shooting in 24 hours, and the third in a week.
The gunman who killed nine people, including his sister, early Sunday morning in Dayton, Ohio, wore a mask, body armor and hearing protection, and he possessed a high-capacity magazine capable of holding 100 rounds, the police said.
The gunman, identified as Connor Betts, 24, used what the police described as an assault-style rifle when he opened fire in a busy entertainment district in Dayton. A shotgun was also found in Mr. Bettss car. Both guns were purchased legally, the police said.
The authorities said they still had not established a motive for the shooting. They said Mr. Betts arrived in the entertainment district Saturday evening with his sister, Megan K. Betts, 22, and another companion. Mr. Betts then split from the rest of the group for a period of time before opening fire, the authorities said.
Ms. Betts was not the first person killed in the assault, and it remained unclear whether Mr. Betts had sought to kill her, the police said. The companion was one of 27 people wounded in the attack, and the police said they had spoken to him.

Did you just wake up?
p
Just some items I hadn’t heard before..
..”Mr. Lamar said the Oregon district, where the shooting took place, was considered the safest place in the city to party.
If you go anywhere else in Dayton, you could be shot by gang members or robbed, he said. But that strip is safe, because its nearby colleges. Its the nice part of downtown Dayton.”
...”A neighbor remembered the gunman making threats during his high school years.
Theo Gainey, 25, who lived for 10 years down the block from the Bettses and was a year ahead of Connor Betts in school, remembered him as a bit of an outcast, ostracized in large part because of threats he made at school that got him into serious trouble.
He got arrested on the school bus for the threats, said Mr. Gainey, who added that he was on the bus himself when it happened. He recalled Mr. Betts being a freshman or sophomore at the time. Mr. Gainey did not remember the specifics of the threats but said that Mr. Betts had to leave school for the rest of that year. When he returned, the threat thing followed him, and people didnt want to hang out with him.
The suspects family home was searched.
BELLBROOK, Ohio The police searched a house in a quiet suburb southeast of Dayton early Sunday morning, where the man identified by the officials as the gunman lived with his parents.
The house is on a cul-de-sac that had been blocked on Sunday with temporary barriers, a strange sight in a neighborhood of otherwise peaceful homes of freshly mowed lawns and people doing yard work.
Just like everybody else in the world, you dont expect it to be a few blocks from your place, said Brian Harris, who was standing up the street with his wife, Diane; they own a machine shop. This is one of the safest places, Ms. Harris said.
Nikki Peralli, 25, remembered the suspected gunman, Mr. Betts, only as tall, skinny and brown-haired.
Brad Howard, 25, said he had known Mr. Betts since before kindergarten and rode the bus with him to school for years, talking about rock bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
Mr. Howard added, Obviously, if youre going to go and make an action like that if youre going to do that theres clearly something that had caused that in his mind.
He had not talked with Mr. Betts for months, he said. I had a bunch of missed calls, I opened my phone, he said. It was just another one of those things, just a kick in the teeth.”
...”Rod Rosenstein, the former deputy attorney general, wrote on Twitter late Saturday that killing random civilians to spread a political message is terrorism.
F.B.I. classifies it as domestic terrorism, but white terrorism is more precise, Mr. Rosenstein said on Twitter. Many of the killers are lone-wolf losers indoctrinated to hate through the internet, just like Islamic terrorists.”
What the hell? What? How do they know she wasn't the first one killed? Did he make it back to his car? Did she drive him there? And what's this crap about being unsure if he meant to kill her? What a weird story.
Thanks for the snark - I’ve been finding articles that described him being thrown out of high school for posting a kill hit list of girls - he wanted to tie them to trees and slit their throats.
But don’t bother to read it, just gripe about it, okay??

And in 9-11, 2001, a group of moslems murdered almost 3000 people in NYC.
No guns involved.

Once upon a time the OP would write some comments. But you just posted a headline that has no lead-in for new info.
Brush up on your posting etiquette.
To be sure, we need more than a slogan here. We need the spiritual beef to back up the slogan.
What would “disarm hate” look like?
It looks like Jesus Christ.
And He is not followed into the Kingdom by getting your life straight. Rather, He is the one who gets your life straight (as an absolute commitment on His part) once by faith you have accepted His hand into the Kingdom. I have been really butting heads with a preacher over this one. But the bible never said “straight” is the gate. That’s a confusion around a KJV-ism that says “strait” is the gate — a term that means “narrow.” The old poets who translated the KJV could have used “narrow” twice in that passage and been clearer, but they came up with the poetic synonym with its unfortunate homonym. Getting into the Kingdom by virtue of accepting His holding your hand (there is no other way) looks like a 180 degree hairpin turn! “Straight” is the way to hell.

Is that in your OP? I don’t think so.

Gator, you have achieved a very rare feat.
You have made outlaw bikers look good.
*face palm*
I’m choosing the post I want to reply to like I always do and TWICE it turns up on the wrong thread. I’ll leave the admin alone this time - the content is not so far off. My apologies. :(
“You have made outlaw bikers look good.”
LOL! No way I could make you look good.
Notice that in this case, the focus is on the GUN, NOT on the beliefs of the shooter, which may have been tinged with a fascination for the occult.
Connor mentioned amphetamines (as seen at a Heavy.com article). He may have been influenced by ecstasy, a very popular drug with the young lefties now. It will make someone like Connor do whatever his handler would want him to do.

Young folks who play with ecstasy now are very hush-hush about it. It’s very coveted in counter culture circles.
