Several high-profile Senate Democrats warned the Supreme Court in pointed terms this week that it could face a fundamental restructuring if justices do not take steps to "heal" the court in the near future.
The ominous and unusual warning was delivered as part of a brief filed Monday in a case related to a New York City gun law. Sens. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., Mazie Hirono, D-Hawaii, Richard Durbin, D-Ill., and Kirsten Gillibrand, D-N.Y., referenced rulings by the court's conservative majority in claiming it is suffering from some sort of affliction which must be remedied.
"The Supreme Court is not well. And the people know it," the brief said. "Perhaps the Court can heal itself before the public demands it be 'restructured in order to reduce the influence of politics.'"
The last part was quoting language from a Quinnipiac University poll, in which 51 percent favored such restructuring. In the same poll, 55 percent believed the Supreme Court was "motivated by politics" more than by the law.
Dramatic changes to the Supreme Court have been proposed by several Democrats vying for their party's 2020 presidential nomination, with "court-packing" being a common -- though highly controversial -- suggestion. Increasing the number of justices on the court would allow the president to shift the balance on the bench by loading up justices of his or her preference.

If you don’t like being ruled by committee what do you do? Increase the size of the committee.
Notice that they say it’s ‘political’ because the court doesn’t vote in their favor but when the court is eventually in their favor then it’s acting accordingly
Yeah man we need to win but there will still be tough times.
Like I said, let’s take 2 or 3 of them with us if they come for us.
Better the odds for those of us left behind.

Civil wars in democracies are like sunspots in that they tend to occur in cycles. For democracies, its about every 200 years.
Properly understood, this brief is a tremendous insult to the Court. The number of amici briefs and the anonymity of the donors supporting such briefs should be entirely irrelevant to the Court. Only the legal arguments should have weight.

You mean some of the most dangerous people on the planet if they ever become the Senate majority.
Democrats cry like babies when the shoe is on the other foot.
While the Senate is alone in its responsibility to confirm appointments to the Supreme Court, it is not alone in making legislative changes to our court system. That must include both the House and the President.
Will the Democrats control the House, Senate, and the Presidency anytime soon?

One huge problem for all of us——Just because they were wrong in 2016 and cheated on content of the people polled in other polls, does NOT mean the polls are always wrong now.
Old saying: A cat who jumped on a hot stove will learn not to do it again, but has also learned not to jump on ANY stove ever again. That lesson is wrong.
Somehow the majority would vote for Biden and the other totally unAmerican Dems over Trump in a 2020 election if this holds.
I pray the polls are wrong and the people are not so debauched and degraded that they would vote for socialism/communism but I can’t know that is true.

“Heal” = ban guns by fiat, force abortion and homosex on the population.
