You might ask the Govs of NY, NJ, MA, CT, & WA about the noncompliance rate for mandatory registering of semiautos. Running about 85 - 90 percent IIRC.
Yeah, a lot of semiautos were turned in in Oz, but that’s because they were already registered. But there are still thousands in private hands.
And in New Zealand there is a media blackout after semiautos were made illegal to possess. If the ban were widely complied with, it would be shouted to the heavens.
Any new gun grabbing laws will have a long way to go to where the rubber meets the road.
Unless the penalty is death, we won’t.
