This smells of ulterior motive. I do not really trust Pence, nor do I trust a justice system that cannot give a reasonable assurance of law and order in its own prisons.

This would never happen, but perhaps there should be two categories for first degree murder.

Person A is caught red-handed committing a first degree murder. Schedule a quick trial, then a quick execution.

Person B is convicted of a first degree murder through DNA or witness testimony. That evidence could be faulty, or tainted. Who knows? I’d be much less likely to advocate for speed in those cases.

It will do little to stop mass shootings since most mass shooters have a death wish to be accomplished by “death by cop”.

But even if it only stops one, it will be worth it.

What really is needed is a non-invasive way to identify the nut cases before they commit the crime.

In this case, as in almost every other including the 9/11 terrorists, there was ample warning ahead of time and no one did anything.

None of the assassins of US Presidents, that lived, made it past 40 days before a date with the hangman or “Old Sparky.”

Now they will last 51 years and gong. (Bobby Kennedy’s assassin)

“which will likely be part of a larger gun control package the White House will try to sell to Congress”.

THIS worries me.
Betraying the 2A is NOT a winning strategy and will NOT make any difference to the frequency of so called “Mass Shootings”.

Reducing the adulation given to the vermin will not END such shootings, but I am personally convinced that it would slow them down.
Perhaps to the point of losing their insane appeal to the losers and nut-cases so that they become very rare again.
As much as emotional reaction demands immediate execution, that is another very dangerous slippery slope.
With that said, I still support a quick trial and review before the death sentence is imposed and carried out the day of the trial WHEN there is no POSSIBLE doubt as to their guilt.

If anyone’s rights are to be trampled I insist it be those who have actually, certifiably, done the crime.

I am sick of those who have done nothing wrong being targeted for punishment and abrogation of their constitutional rights.
I am exasperated at all these demands for additional laws when I know for CERTAIN FACT that so many existing laws are not enforced or are only selectively enforced.

The death penalty is most effective when it is carried out while the crime is still fresh in peoples minds.

I think they have some sort of “fame” complex...public hanging....is a degrading method...of execution....which also removed any delusions of a “glorious” end....they ejaculate ...then piss and sht themselves....video that ....and at least we dont have to deal w anymore “captured alive” .

"This won’t stop any of them. Many of these shooters ultimately kill themselves before capture. They go in full aware it’s a suicide mission. So I’m not sure how increasing the punishment will have any effect at all on this."

Totally agree. these nuts want to die and very few are taken alive. What these nuts fear more than anything is long term incarceration and being stopped before they can kill a bunch of people.

I have posted many times the answer to the lone gunman is for everyone to attack the shooter. Any Tactical team member or special forces troop can tell you a lone gunman is very easily ambushed and taken down. There is simply no way a lone person can defend himself from every angle. That's why tactical teams use a "stack" of men to enter a building. That is so they can cover all the angles of attack. We are doing the exact opposite of what we should be doing to put an end to these events. We should not be running away, we should be jumping on the shooter from every angle. We should make this widely known we will not run in fear but will attack these nuts with savage determination. When this gets out most of these nuts will soil themselves before they get up the nerve to take on a large group of people who are going to come at them from every direction take them to the ground and sit on them until the police arrive and haul them off to prison. This tactic will bring an end mass shootings or at the minimum make them very very rare. Just ask yourself why we likely will never see anyone try to hijack an airliner with a box cutter.

“Hence, there’s likely to be little or no legislation.”

In this case I hope there is no legislation. Legislation can’t fix this problem and can only make life harder for law-abiding gun owners.
