Rolling power outages began Saturday in Glendale and were set to cycle through two different areas in the city.
The outages - employed to ease strain on the electricity distribution system amid high temperatures -- began as early as 12:45 p.m., Glendale Water & Power reported.
They are formulated on an as-needed basis, and anyone experiencing an outage will have power restored an hour after service was disrupted, according to the utility.
The Pacific Community Center at 501 S. Pacific Ave., is available as a cooling center until 9 p.m. Saturday, and the Adult Recreation Center at 201 E Colorado St. is available until 8 p.m.
Saturday's high in Glendale was 92 degrees. That number is expected to drop to 84 on Sunday, according to the National Weather Service.

These were some comments people posted on the city's Department of Water and Power twitter feed: (@COGWaterPower)
Nat: "So, I have lived in third world countries where there are constant problems keeping up with the electric equipment (and yes, with 100+ degrees) and they have fixed problems like this in a mater of a couple of hours. I am sure your are staffed with engineers with brain damage."
Stephanie: "But why twice? People were trapped in our elevator in this blistering heat. Can't you at least warn us ahead of time?"
Andy: "So, let me get this straight: you moved the rolling outages to lower income areas, and then deleted the tweet showing your initial plan for outages in higher income neighborhoods. Cool. Totally on the level."
Making LA Mexico Again.
They should hire Klatu. He has this thing down to a science.
Typical liberal hypocrisy on display. Glendale recently experienced a burst of new construction of luxury high-rise condos and things, and its city council is pocketing the cash. Housing costs are astronomical and pushing the native residents out.
Had me worried there for a moment, I live in the good Glendale that’s currently at 106f
Good bye useless Newsome!
began with Gay Davis and we contuse to refuse to add new power plants Nuclear? Fogedaboutit.
Decades of corrupt utility regulation ? Always trying to kill more and more short- term money / bribes out of the system - all at the ratepayers ( users) expense, of course. Long term service and public needs are irrelevant. Sounds right on course with every report from California we can recall over the years.
As I recall, rolling brownouts/outages were not helpful to that guy named Davis when he was mayor-gave him the nickname “grayout” and got him recalled-someone needs to buy Newsome a clue right away...
Quick. More solar panels!
They should generate more power, instead of turning the place into a poorly run third world country.
Bump
Oh cool [pun very much intended]. Now there’s a new reason to be glad you don’t live in CA. Me? I live about as far away from CA as you can get.
Why are they having rolling blackouts? They should just turn it off and keep it off, you know, for the planet, that’s what Kalifornia says they want.
Who decided which area had to suffer with rolling blackouts?
Businesses would get some sort of benefit for shutting down during heat waves.
One such business was a fuel distribution pipeline company. So, gasoline tankers couldn't be filled to service gas stations, adding to the misery.
Probably by Democrat design in pocketing bribes from wealthy, but otherwise useless, idiots.
Wait until the Dems get rid of coal, natural gas and oil.
Their world won’t be able to sustain air conditioning, so brown/black outs will be commonplace.
But hey, their saving the planet. [The Planet laughs, ‘yeah, right.’]
This will happen in Gnu Yak soon enough since all of the generating resources are being shut off by Prince Andrew and his non-merry band of green hornets.
