Also, as expected, this report is fake but accurate.

You give the left an inch and they will take a mile.

Gun control will not end with background checks. The left will never be happy until they have full scale bans and confiscations.

“So, you’re ok with a convicted felon being able to buy a gun?”

They will get them anyhow. Somehow we got along without any background checks at all from the time the first settlers arrived until NICS was implemented in 1998.

30,000 “Gun Control” laws already on the books.
Of which maybe a dozen are seriously enforced.
The rest are selectively enforced depending on local politics.

But adding another will suddenly be “The Answer”?

The only “Gun Control” laws I will support are the ones where those abusing our 2A to commit harm to others means they get charged and if convicted do the full time.

Use a firearm to commit rape, robbery, mayhem, do the time!
No more plea bargaining the serious charges away to save a few bucks in the short term.
In the end it cost more as the career criminals decide crime does pay, the consequences are light.

We do not have a shortage of laws to control criminal activity, we have a shortage of will to enforce the existing laws.

In reality firearms are used orders of magnitude more often to stop crimes than to commit them.
The recent tragedies do not alter that simple fact, they do not even budge the percentage a measurable amount.
Emotion is no substitute for thought, do not legislate on emotion.

JMHO, but Trump’s bumpstock ban was just a feint.

I know, not one concession, but it’s not a slippery slope.

There are lots of youtube vids showing how to bumpfire with your fingers or with rubber bands.

I’m most concerned about Red Flag, but I’ve been emailing PDJT at whitehouse.gov, asking him to insure that any RF bill mandates due process before confiscation, and makes false accusations a felony and makes false accusers do hard time.

OK. Maybe certain people should not be allowed to have a gun. It's certainly worth consideration.

find out later that what President Trump said or did turns out to be the right thing...

What in your view is the right thing for President Trump to do about "gun violence"?

Governments[ actually Government agents] lie. Nothing ends up as it is initially stated. But they will find out soon enough. “Your Social Security Number will never be used for identification” “If you like your doctor, you can keep your doctor” But, believe Governmental Officials and take them at their word. The Indians did. If it was good enough for them,it is good enough for us.

“universal” background checks which is gun registration”

Why else do you think they need to record the firearm serial # when doing a background check?

Not quite all of it...

NICS queries all sorts of data bases including court convictions, mental health adjudications and involuntary admissions, records of drug abuse from medical and legal systems, so in theory, a NICS query ought to provide a pretty good indication of federal prohibitions. The problem ( I suppose) is that many states’ records systems are not updated, not forwarded and not reviewed for accuracy or content.

IN some states, the NICS query is conducted by the state in agreement with the fedgov.

A person who had been involuntarily committed and or adjudicated as a mental defective IS disqualified, as is a convicted felon etc, however, IF the court does not accurately report or not report at all, it slips by.

Getting the states to accurately report and regularly update is the problem, but as we know, unfunded mandates are not enforceable, as it should.

Majority. Yep, there’s another word in the demonrat dictionary that’s the exact opposite of the Webster’s Dictionary definition.

I agree!

You committed a crime and presumably paid the penalty.

You shouldn’t have to give up your GOD GIVEN right to self protection for the rest of your life!

That penalty wasn’t in the sentencing and I’d be interested to see how it would be considered Constitutional if the Judge at the time were to say ...

“I sentence you to an x number of years in prison and when you have served your sentence you will also give up your right to protect yourself ... for as long as you live!”

"I frankly think that that clip will be played for years at Second Amendment rallies with organizations that try to scare people by saying that democrats are coming for your guns," said Democratic Senator Chris Coons of Delaware.

I think Republicans (AKA "The Stupid Party") would be stupid not to.

I’m not sure why any right thinking American doesn’t own multiple guns & sufficient ammunition at this point in our history. I won’t give mine up and I don’t give a damn what laws are passed going forward.

I fully expect at some point that all FReepers will be on a list for "Red Flag" confiscation.
