St. Louis undercover cop claims officers beat him during anti-police protests

A St. Louis cop is accusing his own police department of pummeling him while he was working undercover during a protest in 2017 – and then trying to cover it up.

Detective Luther Hall’s lawsuit filed this week in U.S. District Court alleges that his colleagues slammed him down twice and then beat him with batons and fists days after former officer Jason Stockley was found not guilty of killing a black man, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

The lawsuit claims Hall was working undercover in a crowd of people who were protesting the acquittal of the white officer. The protesters damaged windows and flowerpots before – without any audible warning or justification -- responding officers started using pepper spray and bean bag rounds to get them to disperse, the suit added.

During those moments, the lawsuit says, Hall had his hands up and was instructed to get on the ground when he allegedly was attacked.

Hall was removed from the scene and given medical treatment after a SWAT officer recognized him. But police -- in an apparent cover-up attempt -- never made any documentation of the arrest, the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reported, citing the lawsuit.

The alleged beatdown is said to have left Hall with several herniated discs and a jaw injury that has inhibited his ability to eat – and he has not returned to the job since.

Government paid, "injured in the line of duty" insurance and disability is definitely a lucrative angle to be played here also.

I've seen a few such cases before....

Wuss. Actual non-snowflake cops call that “enhancing your undercover identity”. I know it’s tough to follow, but if the bad guys see the cops treat you as bad as them, that’s good.
If the bad guys see cops treating you like polite professionals, but not them... bad guys get suspicious.

One would think that the Officers involved would have been Criminally Prosecuted for Attempted Murder of a Peace Officer, Aggravated Assault on a Peace Officer,...

Yeah yeah yeah yeah. Give all corrupt cops a break. Cops who do not file reports are corrupt.

He won’t be going back to that line of work. Besides...it would be a too long of a commute from the private island he’s gonna buy with the settlement he’ll receive from the city.

Line of duty medical pensions can be quite lucrative. In my agency you would’ve got the maximum pension (equivalent to 30 years service), plus a percentage of the average overtime officers worked in your division. Now if you’re all jacked up, and can’t appreciate it, it’s not worth it. But people gotta try gaming the system all the time, apparently.

Welcome to the world of qualified immunity! Do you think that just because you are a cop means they will part the armor for you?

Also, assume that you already have filed workman’s compensation etc so you are being gratuitous now, with a multi million dollar suit.

Live by the sword,etc.
