Apparently they need to modify the statement "Storms that drop this much rain are estimated to appear once in a millennium,..." to "Storms that drop this much rain are estimated to appear EVERY TWO YEARS OR SO,...". Heads up Texans. Hope you guys and gals are all safe.

They could say the two storms so close together are signs of climate change.

Climate change ping!

Left would be happy if TX disappeared under the waves.

Southeast Texas, Beaumont ant the surrounding areas, as well as parts of Houston are like New Orleans and should not be places where people live, or at least not where we the United States taxpayers must keep paying to rebuild after a flood.

The people of New Orleans and Southeast Texas should move to areas that are less likely to flood.

Hit here in San Antonio last night. Rain was very heavy and every minute there were around ten lightning flashes for about an hour or so. One bright flash and thundering crash seemed to hit our back yard as I watched out the window and the power was lost and then I saw a burst of falling sparks where it seemed it really hit some power pole a couple hundred yards away. Power came back on hours later.

Have the commies over at the Weather Channel come up with some scary name for it ?

My favorite invented term from last year was "BOMB CYCLONE".

Texas drowning under 1 of wettest storms in U.S. history(recorded)

How old was the "reporter" that wrote that headline, and how old was the "editor" that allowed it to go to print like that? Was the story written as a text message on their iPhone?

I just read I believe at www.wattsupwiththat.com that there was far more rainfall during the Little Ice Age which led to crop failure and starvation.

Perhaps the cooler atmosphere causes the water vapor to condense?

Who had the rain gauge 1000 years ago? 500 years ago?

Clearly, a complete lack of understanding of, or total disregard for, the rules of statistics.

A ‘1,000 year storm’ is just a way of saying that there is a 1/1,000 chance of that happening in any given year. It does not mean that it isn’t supposed to happen every thousand years.

It’s like a 30% chance of rain - doesn’t mean that there’s a 1 in 3 chance of rain overall, just that they’ve estimated that only about a third of the area is likely to get wet.

Houston floods when a bird tinkles. It’s flat and low lying land coastal land. Top that with all the concrete from the growth and there’s no soil left to soak up the rain.

Weather Channel says it is the 5th wettest day for Houston. Not even close to the wettest day in history.

They could send that rain up to DFW. We could use it. They are being selfish, hogging it all.

A postman walks through streets flooded by the tropical storm Imelda, as he delivers mail in Galveston, Texas.

I've seen it higher than that in New Orleans in rainstorms without names. Perhaps it is worse than this in other places though.
