In a new campaign video on Facebook, Senate Majority Mitch McConnell pitches himself as the man who can end the House's impeachment inquiry, a sign of how the chief Republican in the chamber might handle an impeachment trial should the House pass articles charging President Donald Trump with crimes.
"Nancy Pelosi is in the clutches of a left-wing mob," McConnell says directly to a camera. "They've finally convinced her to impeach the President. All of you know your Constitution. The way that impeachment stops is a Senate majority, with me as majority leader."
"But I need your help," he adds. "Please contribute before the deadline."

What he means is that he’ll give Trump a speedy trial.
Meaning discovery and declassification and Deep State actors testifying under oath BEFORE the election.

now lets not be hasty...if Pelosi and that crew actually do it...then let it be known what the trial will look like..The President Trump u can bet will present a scorched earth defense...so barack obama, joe biden, hunter biden etc can expect to called as witnesses...heh heh.
Levin said that - in the same way the house is not required by the constitution to hold a vote to begin impeachment - the Senate is not mandated to take that from the House and have a trial. And why should they? If the House is going to turn this into a one party railroad against Trump, then Trump is denied the due process that the impeachment process officially grants him by allowing the GOP minority to have equal subpoena power and present that side. The Senate should say, until you do the process right, we won’t take up the charade. So piss off.
The House intends to avoid voting on impeachment....allowing hearings to take place, which only give subpoena powers to the Democrats (they control the House). If the hearings conclude, with the evidence...they’d have a rack-and-stack vote on impeachment and just hand it all over to the Senate.
Trump is saying no one will cooperate unless you have the vote, and that allows subpoena power to the GOP in the House. Pelosi, I think...has the strategy avoid that subpoena game.
So as this is handed to the Senate...they can do three things. They can accept the impeachment package and proceed on. They could say nothing is of any value, and dump it right there. Or they could say.....you didn’t accomplish this in the right manner with evidence presented by the Republicans in the House...so we hand it back to you, and allow the the vote to occur with another full investigation....with potentially dozens of people subpoenaed by the Republicans.
In the third case, I think Pelosi will do nothing else, and just claim they followed the intent of the law, and the GOP are ‘criminals’ in this whole matter.
One thing you should note....if the Republicans in the House have subpoena power, they will bring Joe Biden and son Hunter into the room to provide sworn statements. This will be very unpleasant for both. There’s a clear reason why Pelosi will go this direction.
He doesn’t need any money to gavel Impeachment to oblivion provided he has 50 votes.
What he needs to do is give the president a speedy trial and give him a wide latitude in his defense-which would be (as others have stated) a scorched earth defense. It would be the absolute trial of the century in which he would expose every deep state plot against him for all to see.
The ONLY reason you would “kill it” is if you thought the man was guilty. The media would have a field day with that, as would the Dems and it’s a terrible idea. They HOPE that’s what Mitch does. They fear a trial.
Supposedly, he can change the rules so a simple majority vote can dismiss the charges, so the Senate doesn’t have to even hold a trial. I guess the money he’s trying to raise is for damage control ads after he might do something like this. If we don’t pay the ransom, he won’t dismiss. If we do pay the ransom, he still won’t dismiss...

The reason I do not agree with you is the way in which The Turtle dealt with Kavanaugh. That was epic.
If he was going to cast his lot with the anti-Trumpers he would have thrown Judge K under the bus.
The only way the process gets to the Senate is the House voting out articles of impeachment, a separate vote from the one that delegates investigation subpoena power.
I'd tell McConnell to pond sand on his fund raising. Give the money to the Trump campaign. Mitch only supports deep state senate candidates. All grass-roots efforts are squashed with prejudice.

How many judges will get confirmed if the Senate is tied up in impeachment trial?
I read here the Senate is falling behind in district judge confirmations. Now they are on vacation again. Really, the only reason we hear so much about these judges is their is literally nothing else to trumpet. McConnell is the great do nothing Senate Majority Leader of his generation.
Since McConnell is on the ballot in 2020 this is all about him.

The only way to kill it is to change the rules. The only way to kill the rules is to use the nuclear option. McConnell has done that with judges and other appointees because the democrats did, but he’s been reluctant to use the nuke option elsewhere.
If he uses the nuke option, they can dismiss the rules that require a 60% vote, pass a “dismissal of the impeachment” with only a majority, and that will be that.
Or, he could preserve the rules, knowing that there’s no way the dems will get 2/3rds to convict. He could hurry the process, go right to the vote, and then have it done with.
President Trump himself might WANT to have the trial so he has the opportunity to subpoena testimony UNDER OATH from the Bidens, Clintons, Obamas, etc.
That would be fun TV.
The “Impeachment Inquiry” is laughable, it’s not impeachment, it’s a campaign strategy pretending to be something serious. The only people taking it seriously are the hate filled corrupt media.
