Thursday evening before midnight, the temperature in Denver dropped to a record low of 13 degrees. The previous day the city came close to a record high with 83 degrees. This difference of 70 degrees in just 2 days is tied for second largest temperature change in Denver since 1872 when records began.
We missed a tie with the largest 2 day temperature change by just 2 degrees. That occurred in 2008 when the temperature dropped 76 degrees between December 14 and 15. But what happened this week is certainly a record for the largest temperature swing in October. No other October dates even appear on the list of the top 25 largest changes over 1 or 2 days.
In addition, the record low of 13 degrees on Wednesday and 9 degrees on Thursday shattered the old records by 4 degrees and 13 degrees respectively. This is remarkable since most records are usually broken by just a degree or two regardless if its a record high or a record low.
What Colorado experienced this week is truly unprecedented for October.

Thank you GloBULL Warming.
Well that’s it folks we’re all going to die.

and i’ll go back home with both empty :)
I would love a little GloBull warming right now...15 at my place in Idaho this morning.
1872. Hmmm.
I lived in ColoradoSprings for twenty years....
You could figure snow on Halloween
There low of 9 degrees is unusual. for October
In three days it will be back in the 70s probably
That’s a VERY impressive cold front!
I blame it on marijuana.
Lived on the MT/WY border that year and recall us having a drop closer to 100 degrees...but then again we’d get -40 or lower lows in winter and over 110 sometimes in the summer
You’d be amazed how much shit breaks and how hard it is on everything
Big front, part of it hit Vegas too. Dropped from 86 to 67.
Global cooling is caused by global warming which is caused by global cooling.
83 deg. fah. here, and we are so happy to see Fall finally arrive. No more triple digits hopefully until Next July.
The weather station is at DIA, out on the plains. It didn’t get that cold in the city although it was a hard freeze last night.
Pretty impressive drop. We (central Texas) went from a high of 96 yesterday to a low of 42 this morning, a 54 degree difference. We never experienced anything remotely close to that kind of a drop within 24 hours in the South Bay area (California).
The next ice age?
AGW?
Climate change?
So many contradicting theories. Let’s just call it “The Weather”.
Geography and atmosphere have a violent history. Try flying those mountain ridges while the weather is transitioning thru the area. I've smashed my head on the overhead console.
100 in Memphis on last Thursday. 43 tonight. It’s called the weather.
Temp goes up, temp goes down. Weather changes. It means nothing!
