A U.S. Military Academy cadet who vanished last week has been found dead, officials said Wednesday.
The body of 20-year-old Kade Kurita was discovered Tuesday night at the West Point military post in New York, where the four-year federal service academy is located. Officials said the cause of death is under investigation, but foul play is not suspected.
We are grieving this loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Cadet Kuritas family and friends, Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams, 60th superintendent of the U.S. Military Academy, said in a statement Wednesday.
Kurita had been missing since Friday evening when he failed to report for a scheduled military skills competition. A M4 rifle was also missing and presumed to be in possession of the cadet, who officials had said was not believed to have any magazines or ammunition.

Update on the news of the Cadet from last Friday.
Sad news. RIP.
RIP.....very sad that he couldnt find some other way out....
Very sad. When he went missing with an M-14, I feared he might take some one out. Didn’t think he would take himself out.
It actually didn’t say he committed suicide. The article said he had no magazines for the weapon. It could have been that he was carrying the weapon to or from class and something totally unrelated happened.
It was an M4. Not an M-14.
Because magazines and ammunition for M4s are so hard to find in greater Annapolis, MD.
(Well, they are if you're looking for greater than 10 round capacity...)
Correct. I went to USAFA and at the time we all had M-1s in our rooms for dress/parade and in my case, marching tours. They were inoperable and plugged to prevent firing. The only active weapons authorized to cadets were for pistol/rifle class and those were checked in/checked out and tightly controlled. Will be interesting to see the full story here.

All it takes is one cartridge. You don’t need a magazine for that.
West Point is in New York.
Shows you how much I know. I was Air Force enlisted.
When I was in Coast Guard Boot Camp in 1973 LBJ had just died and we were selected to march in the funeral in DC. We were given M16s to march at sling arms and the Lt who was responsible the check-out and check-ins was sweating bullets when we came back to Cape May as he catalogued each of the 100+ weapons. Could not imagine the hell to pay if one was missing.
You were close! You were thinking of the Naval Academy which is in Annapolis.
Uhm, Hudson High is north of New York City, not in Maryland. Just saying... And high cap mags are harder to find in New York...
The Naval Academy is in Annapolis. Not West Point.
Services varied I guess. We kept our M-14 padlocked to our bunks, quite operable of course. Lock went through the safety hole.
“Where the four year federal service academy” and that’s all I need to know about ABC News. Bring back the draft and a land war in China to rectify the problem with the disconnect with the military:)
