Officer Willard Miller is learning a lesson of his own: Act in haste, repent at leisure.

He may repent for the rest of his life. If he's fired he won't get rehired by anyone.

I wonder what kind of training the officers there get before they graduate from the police academy. We know so little from this three second snippet.

Getting fired is the least of his worries. He may go to prison tagged as a child abuser. I hear prison is not a pleasant experience for these types of convicts.

As for the girl, she’s going to rich thanks to this child-abusing cop.

When the trial begins the ENTIRE story will probably come out. THEN both of them will get plenty of air time.

WHO KNOWS what their history was before this three-second snippet was recorded. They may even be next-door neighbors or related through in-laws.

What could she have said to him that would have justified slamming her on the floor?

Most of the story is missing.

On that we both agree. And I made the mistake of engaging my mouth before my brain. With the usual results. I preach that everyone is entitled to their opinion. But sometimes I don't practice it. Hence my initial post.

That depends on how well she knows him.
But, you recall that she kicked the back of his knee. Why did she bother to add that kick to whatever she said?

We only know THREE seconds of their entire history.

And I have NEVER done that too much... well only twenty or thirty times this past hour! :o)

So give us a scenario where he was justified in slamming her to the floor the way he did.

So give us a scenario where he was justified in slamming her to the floor the way he did.

She keyed his new car.
She threw a lighted newspaper at his dog.
She threw a rock at his grandma.
She kicked his retarded little sister.
She slammed her own little sister to the floor.
She kicked him because he or one of his fellow officers arrested her mother for prostitution.
She kicked him because he or one of his fellow officers arrested her brother for selling drugs.
She kicked him because he or one of his fellow officers arrested her father for pimping.
Maybe he or one of his fellow officers got shot by one of HER male relatives when trying to stop a robbery.
Maybe she and some of her girlfriends tried to take money from one of the neighborhood girls on her way to the store. [This happened to me. I was twelve and a VERY fast runner and escaped. My father decided to move us away from that neighborhood.]

I got lots more but you get my point.

Some fifteen-year-olds have very fertile imaginations for getting into trouble. She also may have learned this from someone else in her family.

I get the point - you are unable give a scenario that justifies slamming her to the floor.

That’s why he was arrested and charged with felony child abuse.

I’m going to ask my friend that works in juvenile detention what she thinks of this clip.
Even though you didn't ask me here's a few points:

1) Very early in school, kids learn to dip their knee into the back of another's knee - properly done they completely collapse backwards. - 1st: The knee you "hit" is the one locked vertically, the other is bent without support

2nd: As seen here that's almost true except his bent knee isn't really as its propped up against a beam and the "shot" at his right knee is pathetic.

3rd> The officer doesn't react violently in any way at first and there's no audio.

4th: He seems to think about the situation and and if she'd brought him down she could have a gun or a taser; then maybe he thinks of all our officers across the USA being "disrespected" - this gal is in police detention - how many times that year?

5th: Assaults on our LEOS are going nationwide and that was an "assault" on a LEO we cannot have average cops on the streets having things thrown at them, trash on the cars, set on fire, Molotov cocktails, water or whatever with out consequence. Only chaos can result. Still I've been treated rough when I should have been the "good" guy. This LEO could have controlled this gal with less force.

Perhaps that's why we've defined and codified "Excessive Force".

6th: I've been illegally arrested, illegally prosecuted and had all charges dropped in a pre-trial "Peterson" motion for only $10,000 attorney's fees, etc. in a Stand Your Ground case. All charges dismissed due to a finding of rightful self-defense. No shots fired.

Note: Motion was before judge, pre-trial, no "anti-gun" jury - worst case motion denied, lose it and then you might want to plea. Three years hard time I would avoid - take my guns, 5 years probation, whatever.

Last legal note: Make sure your attorney agrees cover to ALL pretrial matters. Then you can make him/her earn her fee not just trying to get you to plea once the ink on your check has dried. Just FYI.

While talking to the LEOs on 911, following their every direction, I was knocked down from behind and basically tortured for 5 minutes with both arms behind my back and my elbows lifted to created unbelievable pain til my wife came roaring up and they sat me up and finally painfully cuffed me.

They prosecuted trying to put me in prison for THREE years with the worst of the worst with no time off for good behavior or early release. Long story. Short story: Big guy charging me saying he was going to beat the shit out of me, I drew my weapon, racked a round and said "that would be a very bad idea!". Kind of a Clint Eastwood moment but went downhill from there.

IF you're CCW, have to use your weapon, no LEOs around (with LEOS around put your weapon down and lie down stretched out away from it & keep saying "CCW!") or get out of there and go home, fire up the video camera/phone or a big store with exterior security cameras. LEO tape is not always "available". Call your lawyer, call the fire department and call the news - limit what you say to "I was attacked, I feared for the lives of me and the family - so I protected them" as appropriate. Otherwise - "No Comment - I want to speak with my attorney ASAP".

Needless to say my support for LEOS as good guys has ebbed a bit and reports of excessive force ring a bit more true.

Still the main point is that its a thin blue line that protects us and yet a line that they need to keep to their regs which I generally believe they do as evidenced from many reports when they pull some slime ball perp, alive and well, out of a swamp whose killed one of their own.

Anecdotally, the evidence suggests that most cops are doing their job right and many a defendant should thank G-d that they are still alive.

IMHO

PS: Usually this sort of post is a post killer - so - sorry.

;-) Sorry to bore you but I'm sort of putting some of my own thoughts together - commments appreciated.

I thought your post was MOST interesting.

I lived in Mexico City for two years, finding some of my roots, so to speak. And THEIR standard police aren't paid wages and their only source of income is the "mordida," "bite." They live on what they can gauge from those who break traffic laws.
One rainy night I was driving to meet someone on their freeway. As I went off the almost-missed off ramp I DOUSED a motorcycle cop with a SHOWER of rain and water.
Needless to say he tracked me down and had me follow him to a very dark and very secluded spot. I was scared sh&&&&ss, needless to say. I was 100% in the wrong.
Then I lied to him saying that I didn't speak Spanish.

Well, I wasn't going to cry because women OFTEN use their tears as a weapon when they're in the wrong. I apologized in Spanish over and over again. I promised never to that again.
He yelled at me, scolded me and reminded me of what he could do to me. I hung my head, DIDN'T cry and just repeated my apologies....
He was SO angry and I didn't blame him.

Finally, after venting his spleen he finally yelled: "VAYASE!!... or "GET OUTTA HERE!!!!
He let me go. No bribe, no nothing.

I don't know why he let me go with no jail, no bribe...maybe because I DIDN'T cry but ate crow. I still can't figure it out but I was most grateful.
I never did break the driving laws again and was always VERY careful.

We both had a "meeting" with the law.
I'm glad it worked out for you and I will ALWAYS remember that ONE decent Mexican motorcycle cop who spared me.

I hope my story didn't bore YOU.

My friend who works in juvenile detention sees this as an unfortunate yet not that uncommon event.

We don’t know what the young lady was saying or if she did something that didn’t show up on the tape (spitting is another form of assault).

Yes, dude was way out of line, and the kid was an idiot.

I stand by what I said, and no, that is not victim blaming, it’s recognizing unusual circumstance.

Also, after watching the clip several times, her knee-trick seems to be almost playful at first, which would explain the officer’s lack of immediate reaction. Then something got under the officer’s skin and he chose poorly...

Everyone involved here knows that cameras are always on in these places nowadays. Everyone here was not on their best behavior.

All true what you wrote.

One would not wonder that the girl's past led her to this. Maybe there was an abusive father image.

I DO hope for the best for her. People can ALWAYS change.

I also HOPE that she finds our good Lord in her DAILY life. There is NOTHING better that that.

Thank you for your thoughtful post.
