U.S. forces wont be withdrawing from Afghanistan any time soon, according to Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Mark Milley, who said Sunday the mission in Americas longest war will likely be ongoing into the future for several more years.
The effort to prevent Afghanistan from being a safe-haven for terrorists plotting attacks on the U.S. homeland is ongoing and has been ongoing for 18 years, Gen. Milley told ABCs This Week in an interview a day before Veterans Day celebrations in the United States.
While his comments fit with the Trump administrations stated posture toward the Afghan war, the joint chiefs chairmans message may be seen to run counter to President Trumps oft-stated claim to be getting America out of so-called forever wars.
Mr. Trump has touted the claim to supporters in light of his recent decision to draw down the number of U.S. forces in Syria.
Gen. Milley told ABC that Americans should think back to the original reason why were are in Afghanistan to begin with, which is 9-1-1.
We went there in order to make sure that Afghanistan never again would be a haven, a safe-haven for terrorists that would attack the United States, he said. That mission is not yet complete and in order for that mission to be successful, the government of Afghanistan and the Afghan security forces are going to have to be able to sustain their own internal security to prevent terrorists from using their territory to attack other countries, especially the United States.
I think that we will be there for a significant amount of time because its in our national interests to be there, to help out, Gen. Milley said.

BS. Get em out now. If they misbehave...saturation bombing. Thank you Bomber Harris. Thank you Curtis LeMay.
Because 23 trillion is just an extremely large number.
Oh, sure:
We’ll re-create the American mid-west in the Middle East.
Three-block war, Nation Building.
Soooo much fun, so achievable, yet soooo mysterious that none of the kids of the decision makers are physically involved:
Suuuuch a mystery.
Our military apparently doesn’t belong to us.
Reality is it will be forever.
Their only purpose is to kill people and break things, but let’s put them in prison if they dare do it.
What we have here is failure to communicate. It isn’t a matter of OPSEC, although we do need to bear that in mind, it’s a matter of telling the American people what the mission is, and negatives such as “preventing” something are now, 18 years in, too vague to be convincing. If the citizens (especially those of us who are veterans) are placed in the role of protecting the troops on the ground from their own command then we have a problem, and if it even looks like that we still have a problem.
Preventing the training, planning, and funding or terrorist plots against America needs to begin by dismantling the CIA and starting over, plus trying Brennan and Cofer Black for treason.
Seeing them swing will change a lot of deep state minds.
My solution on Sept. 12, 2001 was much better, cheaper and more effective - complete travel ban on approx. 30 Muslim countries of South Asia, Mideast and North Africa. They can't commit terrorism on the USA if they are not within our borders. No need to invade their shitholes, kill young Americans, strip-search Americans at airports and concert halls, no need to spend $5 Trillion.
Amen
Many of the soldiers that originally went in there are grandfathers now.
Afghanistan has always been a wild wasteland.
No one has ever tamed it and no one ever will.
Pointless exercise.
Iranian containment
Al Qaeda containment
ISIS containment
While we elect representatives of Al-Shabab and Hamas to Congress......./s
Deep State gets a win.
Mine was:
I've been saying for some time that we should have flattened Iraq's and Afghanistan's infrastructure, killed their leaders, divided the countries along ethinic lines, set the ethnic groups at each other's throats, and walked away. The take home message is: You F with us, we will track you, personally, down and kill your sorry arse, we will destroy everything you hold dear, and your country will simply cease to exist.
The bonus in this case is Turkey, who wouldn't help us, is rewarded with a newly minted Kurdistan on their border. That Iran also has to deal with a Kurdish homeland on their border is a bonus...

Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness...its always been a battle between the innocent and the criminal...the sociopaths.
The preparation of the battlefield is at hand. We are being properly subdued.
Trump needs to fire him.
